Cam Newton's best passing game since 2011?

After looking at PFR, I saw Cam's passing performance yesterday was the most yards he's had passing since 2011. Of course, Cam had a crazy opening that season, throwing for over 370 yards in three out of the first four games (the exception being the monsoon against Jacksonville). Here is how this stacks up in his top five of all time
1) 2011 Carolina vs. Green Bay (lost 23-30) - 28/46 (60.9%) for 432 yards, 1 TD and three INTs (QB rating of 72.0); 10 carries, 53 yards (5.3 YPC) and 1 TD
2) 2011 Carolina at Arizona (lost 21-28) - 24/37 (64.9%) for 422 yards, 2 TDs and 1 INT (QB rating of 110.4); 8 carries, 18 yards (2.3 YPC) and 1 TD
3) 2011 Carolina at Chicago (lost 29-34) - 27/46 (58.7%) for 374 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT (QB rating of 83.1); 8 carries, 35 yards (4.4 YPC) and 2 TDs
4) 2016 Carolina vs. San Francisco (won 46-27) - 24/40 (60.0%) for 353 yards, 4 TDs and 1 INT (QB rating of 111.8); 6 carries, 37 yards (6.17 YPC)
5) 2015 Carolina at New York Giants (won 38-35) - 25/45 (55.6%) for 340 yards, 5 TDs (QB rating of 116.9); 8 carries, 100 yards (12.5 YPC)

If you had to ask me, I'd say this isn't in his top five of all time, but dang close. If he does this well almost every week it would be hard to argue against an MVP repeat.

Cam could very well win his 2nd MVP if he continues to play as well as he did yesterday.  The dumb fumble aside, he simply can do things most other QB's can't, especially not consistently.  He also played well in Denver too all things considered.

Cam's progression as a passer is truly remarkable.  Cam was a top 10 QB before last year simply based on his dynamic running ability and ability to throw deep, but he is now consistently playing like the very best to top 5 QB level.  It's something we've never had as a franchise and something that quite honestly I never knew he would reach.  And that's not a knock- most QB's never do.  It goes to show how hard he works in addition to his God-given unwordly athleticism.

The offense in the 2nd Half yesterday was about as good as it gets in the NFL.  There have only been a few fleeting times in Panthers franchise history (Beuerlein in 1999), (Delhomme/Smitty in 2005) where our offense was truly something to behold.

Our offense has evolved into a truly elite level offense.  The RB depth is concerning, but outside of that, the combination of a MVP caliber QB and multiple playmakers is amaazing.

Enjoy it now b/c while I'm hopeful this level of offense will continue for some time, one day we are going to look back and realize how special it was.

Yeah, the way he runs with the ball it amazing it hasn't happened more often. Pretty sure he will try and protect the ball more, but that could actually cause more fumbles...so run Cam run!

It scares me to how he carries the ball sometimes too but he gets away with it a lot because how big his hands are. Watching him and KB hold a football makes it look like they are mini footballs.

I do think that Sunday was in the top 5 games he has had as a passer.  The total yards isnt the big issue but the 4 TDS were versus 1 INT which was a tipped ball which really wasnt his fault.  The amount of run yards or lack thereof is actually a good thing as well given that we put up a lot of yards on the ground without him having to do it or risk injury.

    • Sometimes its fun to read the threads/posts.  The panthers could literally hire a groundskeeper and we'd have a thread "improving the field for no other reason to prop up Bryce Young".  Apparently no move is ever done to actually make the team better.  All a conspiracy to just focus on Bryce Young. Or suddenly daydreaming and reminiscing about Sam Darnold when he was hated more than Bryce Young.  Its really fun to do a message board search about Darnold during that time period.   Or thinking there is just a tree that grows QB, and you can just easily go up and pluck one.
    • Yeah okay. We as an organization have been more patient with him than many. And there has been a small parade of guys drafted since he was, also to bad teams, that have passed him. Some have lapped him. As a fan I am out of patience but he gets this year it is out of my hands always has been. I just hope the bar is higher than it has been for him.    FWIW, XL dropped two passes last year. He did do some other bad stuff, just saying.
    • Except it takes those QB's a few years to develop because they needed to learn the mental side of the game and have it catch up to their physical attributes. Bryce was supposed to be a QB savant who already had a fully developed mental side of the game and that was going to make up for his lack of physical ability.  And his lack of NFL level QB physical traits has been clear as day to anyone who has watched him the last 3 years, mainly, he just doesn't have an NFL arm, he can't zip the ball into tight spaces or throw on a line down the field like is needed at this level.
