they both got signed to bad contracts and the more expensive, less productive, older of the two got released the minute his dead money wouldn't cripple the team too severely.  plus depending on who you listen to (like, say, the guy who runs this site and is in the panthers locker room routinely and on the field every home game) he was a pain in the ass and not particularly well liked near the end.

but hey the steelers were in the right place at the right time and got a bargain, that's great for them.
