Hornets Basketball Starts Tonight

In case anyone didn't know the preseason starts tonight for us so lets try to get a few people up in here at least.

What are your expectations for this season? I think we will somewhere between 45 and 50 games and be in the top 5 or 6 of the eastern conference. Clifford is a pretty good coach, we finished in the top 10 in both offense and defense last year, while finishing quite well down the stretch.

It seems like Hibbert is going to be our starting 5 man going into the season based on the tweets I've been seeing. I'm just trying to get a little something something brewing in this sub-forum.

My expectations are lower. I think we could be a little bit better if MKG stays healthy, but I think we all know that isn't going to happen.

The lift in scoring that Lin provided off the bench was found on few other teams last year and it will be missed.

Any particular reasons why other than Lin? Kemba and Marvin were both pretty incredible last year, so if you think they might regress a little bit I could see that.

Honestly I think Sessions can take over Lin's production, he only averaged 12/3/3. Granted his highs won't be as high as Lin's were (he won us a game vs the Spurs and against the Cavs sans Kemba), but I don't think his lows will be as low either. Sessions quietly led the Wizards on a great end of season run last year. They beat us, the Hawks, and the Celtics I believe in the last couple of weeks of the year with Wall resting, and Sessions was a huge part of that. Maybe it's just preseason buzz but I like having Sessions back.

Lin's ability to create on offense extended beyond those plays that he scored on. I think you'll find that the entire 2nd unit greatly benefited from his ability to create movement and get to the basket.  And he was great at drawing fouls.  I like Ramon, I just don't think he's the same kind of player.

As for the starting 5, hibbert is as much a liability on offense as big Al was on Defense last year. I also don't know how well Hibbert and MKG are going to mesh.  Offensive rebounding should go through the roof.

Lots of questions that will soon be answered.

I think we make the playoffs, but I agree that hibbert will be just as bad defensively as Big Al was. I hate Cho and I'm not a big Steve Clifford fan, I know we finished well offensively last year, but sometimes it's looks like our offense is playing a pick up game at the Y. No real play calling. Hopefully the Defense can be good again and we can be high in the Eastern Conference.

    • Facts it's still crazy that they made him sell over that especially considering what some of the other owners have done.  JR was a rich 80 year old white man from the south I'm not at all surprised about him making some "inappropriate" comments about what a woman is wearing water is wet what a surprise. That's just the way things were done during his time, and he should and did get punished for his actions by paying some hefty fines, but it definitely wasn't something that he should've been forced to sell his team over.  I'll never forget him insulting Peyton Manning during a negotiation, reportedly belittling the quarterback’s knowledge of player safety and asking, “Do I need to help you read a revenue chart, son?
    • Like many of the old heads, I’ve been here for a long time.  I got a lot of respect for everyone on this board for your dedication to this team.  We’ve all been through it during the tougher years. At this point in life, I’m not one to judge anyone’s level of dedication, or their reasons why anymore.  Time, and a lot of bad football, will do that.  For me, it’s simple.  We share a common bond.  For that, I love and appreciate all of you crazy SOB’s. For me, last season was at a minimum, entertaining.  BY lead a young team to multiple come from behind 4th qtr wins.  That showed me heart, and that he has the clutch gene.  That’s the wildcard intangible.  For me, that was fun to watch even  if it was mindbogglingly frustrating at times.  Over the past two seasons, we have progressively built a better team around him.  On paper, the defense should be better this season.  That’ll help.  Let’s see what he can do as the other guys continue to develop too.  Besides, his contract is cheap for a few more years, and we just made some smart cap decisions during the draft. Let’s see how it shakes out.
