Panthers cut Bene

Only difference is we don't have Josh Norman on the roster to save us. All we have are TOTAL TRASH 2-5 round WASTED DRAFT PICKS on DB's that can't cover.

Harsh and unfair to call Rookies trash. Only thing I can think is the season is a washout and the move gives Gettleman more leverage to say he put together a rookie secondary and there going to suck until they become true NFL players.. It's the only reason why I can see Bene is taking a whipping and has been cut! I mean guys like Colin Jones who I doubt even makes a roster anywhere else has been promoted to start over Bene who was a #2 corner a year ago opposite Norman! It's a head scratcher tbh and my reason above is only thing I can think of.

I know the announcement was today, but I wonder when this officially happened.  If it did indeed happen today, I don't understand why you wouldn't have done it sooner if the catalyst for this was his performance against Jones on Sunday.  Considering Sanchez is a rookie, I just hope he will have taken enough reps with the 1-2s before Monday.  I would have hated for him to be putzing around with the practice squad all week long if this could have been handled in a more timely fashion.

Im a big Getty fan...but this just makes me scratch my head.  Why not just put him or as a backup, bring up Sanchez and see how it goes?  Just cutting him all together seems quite severe.  I hope there is good logic to it.

I can see a rational reason for doing it.

If Bene is absolutely no better than Bradberry or Worley (and I feel that could well be the case), then why keep Sanchez banished to the practice squad?

Cut your losses with Bene and bring up Sanchez.

All panic and suicidal thoughts aside, considering the performance of the CBs as a whole this year, I don't see us as any worse now then we were prior to the Atlanta game.

But feel free to panic if you wish.  @JeremyIgo is providing paper bags to breath into and pillows to cry into free of charge!  (P.S. They all have The Huddle logo on them.)

You don't get cut for being burnt in one game! Whether you hate Gettleman or love the guy this isn't a reasonable assumption! Let's wait til we hear from the coaches, Bene looked slower and out of condition to me since coming back! Maybe he will never get back to who he was? The staff know his health and mental state, all we know is what we see in tv. Let's wait and see

Move makes no sense. We're punishing players when it's mostly the coaches and FO's fault. You'r CBs are already trash. It's not like this cut makes us any better there. Bene was a Gettleman draft pick. Yet another failed one. DG's not looking like a good draft day GM.

So what is the point of Teddy Williams? He's totally useless as a CB and isn't even that good on ST. Demote Bene, bring up Sanchez? Sure. This makes no sense though.

I think his ego goes back to Jordan Gross retiring early and Steve leaving.

Ah the ol Jordan Gross truth that most here think is some theory I fabricated. He strong armed Jordan Gross into a pay cut and Gross decided to hang it up because of it. And who was his replacement? Basement bargain Byron Bell. Who many thought would go well because.....he was left handed. My god

And oh, by the way, this screams of a COACHING move and not a MANAGEMENT move.

We're post-Week Four so, salary-wise, the cost of Benwikere was already sunk into the budget.  There was simply no real reason for this to be a MANAGEMENT move (outside of panic and conspiracy theory, of course).

With this in mind (and without knowing every detail, admittedly), I lean towards a higher percentage of probability that this is something that the coaches preferred and the move was made because of that.

Teddy Williams hasn't been injured and (seemingly) still having difficulty recovering from injury.

Again, I'm trying to reason this out and exclude my feelz.

    • Right, so basically what I said in my first post about this last night. Tepper needs to use that big wallet of his in one of the few ways it can be used in the NFL given the cap.   Give Scourton a bigger signing bonus but not a fully guaranteed deal. Everyone wins in that scenario as if Scourton is smart and hires good money people, he'll take that bigger signing bonus and use it to make more money in the end over the next 4 years than if he just had his fully guaranteed deal and a smaller signing bonus.
    • It is all confusing and layered. SB is the cash you get very soon within weeks or in simple terms, its what you get to sign the paper work. Players and agents can agree on contract but what to "wait" to sign......teams don't like that cause you can "Carlos Boozer" yourself. In order to get that ink dry, while keeping the contract the same, portion it as a bonus to "sign" and get the funds with ________ .   * But Ive seen worded contracts that split the SB or a 20% to a later date. The beans counters can fill in the details about why certain dates are better and save the team money.. Theres tricks to the trade and accounting is full of them.    Ugh another big layer, is SB can be used to manipulate cap and players. Ill try to give a example that makes enough sense. Believe it or not having a owner like Tepper is a cheat code for this. He has cash in hand, where as Mark Davis had problem making pay roll and had to move the team to Vegas....... Tepper can give you 100,000,000 SB right now and the team can spread out the cap hit. Another owner doesn't have or want to give the player 100,000,000 in cash, but offered the same guaranteed contract in roster bonuses fully guaranteed over the next few years........ Which one do you want??? Everyone wants the money now, not before another inflation waves hits in 2 years. So it does 'pay" to have a owner like tepper that's able to have real cash on hand, while it also works GREAT for cap help. Heres a good video, if you can stand coked up pat and mask look-a-like AJ
