Not sure I 100% support Cowher coming here, but I would like to point this out to the ignorants that keep saying it took him 15 years to win a Super Bowl.

I would not be mad at the hire either, but... that was the AFC North/Central. Teams such as the Browns, Bengals and Ravens was Oilers before that. Pretty much the weakest division in the 90's. I am not arguing he was an effective coach, but its like saying Seattle has been the best team in the NFCW this decade...kinda.

I think if Fox is fired Cowher will most likely be our HC. Love him or hate him you can't argue he has had success. I don't want him myself. I really think he is Fox made over. Strong run game, passing game that doesn't turn the ball over. And his success on the D side of the ball was mainly due to the Genius he had as a D coordinator. No I want a guy that will bring something new to this team and hopeful to the league (I want some creative play calling). But we can't all have what we want.

I took a look at his previous coaching positions and what do ya know..other than defensive coordinator, he used to be a secondary and special teams coach. Those are two other areas that are weak for us. He could fix 4 different areas for us instantly (Head Coach, DC (possibly working together with one), Secondary, and ST).

If you're serious about Cowher being the second coming of Fox, kys immediately.

I am. The only thing that I see Cowher an upgrade over Fox would be his Intenstiy. I like Fox and think he WAS a good coach but this League has figured him out and I haven't seen any adaptability because of that. He is a one trick pony, same as Cowher. I have respect for Cowher but Old School football is a dying breed in this league.

Intensity is one major thing this team lacks. The league has gotten more generous towards the offenses, b/c fans want scoring. Cowher was more up to think outside the box than Fox has lately, they demonstrated some trickery, and they obviously practiced it well or would not run it. We try a trick play here, and it is a disaster. Run the ball, play intimidating defense is still a winnable solution in this league, don't let two weeks of Saints Payton offense fool you too hard, it will come back to earth. Teams that don't run, which we can't include Saints yet b/c they have run, don't win as much. NE threw the ball over 70% and lost, and they were leading most the game.

I agree with this. But I really am not confident that Cowher brings the toughness on Defense you think he does. I mean how many different Coaches has Dick Lebuea coached under and yet he always has a top D. Without him I think Cowher wouldn't have lasted long enough to get to the Super Bowl.

    • Here's the thing. You compared him to Jake. Jake was signed to the practice squad out of college. Bryce was the number 1 overall. Their expectations are wildly different and so are their contracts. You can talk all you want about what a player is and where they are now and all this other mumbo jumbo, but Jake never had a 5th year option and we weren't talking about the possibility of a top 5 QB contract extension at the end of his 3rd year. What he was expected to be matters because we invested heavily at a cost of future capital, including a 2nd round pick this year, for him to be that guy. The cost to add Bryce took value from the team. To be worth it, he has to add that value back.  Actually, I don't prefer yards, TDs, or only INTs. All those stats by themselves are misleading which is why I said you have to use a lot of different stats. ADOT - Average depth of target.  Completion %. Pretty obvious until you factor in ADOT. 0-5 has a lot higher C% than 10-15%. Hang time. If a pass is in the air for 4.6 seconds vs 3.1 on a 40 yards throw, that gives a DB a lot of time to correct. Is it a loft or is it a laser.  EPA - Expected points added. A way of measuring QB efficiency on every play.  CPOE - ranking pass completions based on several factors, not just the throw.  There's obviously more, but those are the more common.  Typical stats don't show everything. You need to look all over. Looking at a stat line is lazy. That's why I said, you need to analyze everything. Once you start looking at the numbers you start looking at the player. That's why you follow numbers. They lead you places. You look at what happening when the numbers show you patterns. That's where you start finding the problems that yards, TDs and Ints won't show you.
    • It's not relevant who wins or loses. It's about actually attempting to get better at the position.
    • Thank you. I don't understand how the Bryce stans don't see this. I've never seen a player get more hyped for doing so little. Honestly it's driving me a little insane.
