With No More Financial or Emotional Ties to This Team...

I happily took free tickets to the game, drove 4 hours each way to see my team play. (I don't have the same local opportunities to see the games live like y'all, so every chance I get puts a smile on my face.  Until the end of the game, in which case the reward remaining was just the journey by itself)

Hey....good to meet you yesterday, buddy. Glad you made the drive and came to tailgate. That was fun.

I'm not mad at you, OP but there's no way I could ever give up on the Panthers. Been down with them for so long, since I was 10 years old. They make some moves i don't understand at times, and I'm not really fond of a good portion of the fans in the fanbase but this is my team. I will never give up on them.

Your jumping the gun too early, though. Cam is about to come byke and do the unthinkable and get us to the postseason.

Man....I live for Sundays during the NFL season no matter how my team is doing. Obviously I go to the games to see the Panthers win, but these weekends are so much more to me than whether or not we win the game. When I describe how we try and put together away game trips I always say something about how it's a vacation with a bunch of friends that happens to end with a Panthers game. Obvious we are there as fans and for the game, but getting to spend time in cities outside of Charlotte, seeing all the cool sights in those cites, and getting to meet a ton of new people is something I wouldn't ever change. High fiving and cheering those people is great, but sharing frustrations about the team is also fine. Because at the end of the day it's still just entertainment and on Monday it's back to the real world but I'm taking new friends and memories with me which will always be worth the investment to me personally

PS.....I'm leaving for New Orleans tomorrow. Spending 5 days in a city I love with my wife and her family mixed in with some parties with a ton of Panthers fans sounds freaking awesome to me.

This.

Should be required reading for all football fans.

Be a Panthers fanatic when the team is winning.  Be a fan of the game and of the experience when they are not.

I don't understand people who take this stuff personally.  I understand that your choices and preferences can change over time and maybe PSL's and football are not what floats your boat anymore - but some of these posts are full of butt hurt and that makes no sense to me when talking about an NFL team.

The Panthers are not a girlfriend (or boyfriend) that you should feel passionate about one way or the other because, trust me, it's not personal to the Panthers or to Jerry R.  They don't love you.  They don't owe you anything.  They won't sit by the phone waiting for you to call.

The NFL - it's a game and a great opportunity to spend time making memories with people who are important in your life.  To take it more seriously than say, WWE, is a mistake in my opinion.

Too much drama.

@Anybodyhome I am disappointed.

you're been a great poster, even during the old scout days. Just very disappointing..... To see this behavior form you.

It isn't like he doesn't watch at home. I got what he is saying. It takes a lot out of you driving down to Charlotte pay for parking.  It wears on you.  Now all he has to do is turn off the TV.

Doesn't make him less a fan than anyone else.

I understand his points. Still disappointed it's coming form abh. He's was one of few I took time to read on the scout\huddle forum. Seeing that is just disheartening, abh would been one of last posters I thought to post this. Sorta like zod retiring form taking photos and staying at home during games.

Yeah I'm in the same boat as OP.

Im not planning to see anymore live games this year, giving up my PSL tickets (to other panther fans). Not traveling to any other away games (last year went to 3).

I also have no more expectations of the team. Yes I want them to play well, but will not let emotions take the joy out of watching these guys play.

I actually fell asleep in the 3rd qtr last night and woke up to watch the last few mins of the 4th qtr. After the game, went to bed and slept like a baby.

Damn, already?  hopefully our payers aren't quitters like you are.

And that's exactly where I was 20-some years ago when a group of about 20 of us purchased the rights to the parking spaces up at the top of the parking lot where Draught is now near the practice field. We were the first into the lot on Sunday, had one of our group with a small motor home (came in handy back in the day when there weren't any porta-johns put out) and a custom made grilling trailer he brought down from Stokesdale. It was only 90 minutes or so from Greensboro the first few years and 2 hours from Asheville for the next 3 years and back to 2 hours from Southern VA for 12 years. We watched as members of our group had kids, watched them grow up, celebrated births, even attended a couple funerals together. We all road tripped to Atlanta, Tampa Bay and New Orleans at least once a year and even made the trip to NY a couple times. By 2014 there were only 4 of us (2 couples) left and we had moved to eastern NC... a 4-hour drive. We sold half our tickets and tried to work out our schedules to stay over in Charlotte. Last season we attended a couple games and were able to stay over, but the logistics of a house sitter to come over and feed the dogs, hotel costs, 4 more hours of driving.... Understand, we were the last ones on the dance floor at the end of the day. I was 39 when we started all that in 1995... but that was 21 years ago and I've been watching and going to football games for a half a century. My love for the game will never die.

  • 1 month later...

Bumping this thread because I am sure many of you are finding yourselves in this position that I was in a month ago.

TLDR 6 page Summary:

For the rest of the season you will be watching the Panthers without expectations or hope. Emotionless.

Spoiler: It makes it easier to deal with losses like today...
