Belichick & Collins vs Gettleman & Norman

Very comparable.  Those that insist our secondary is the worst in the league because of the Norman deal and not the injuries are just bonafide Gettleman haters.  The same ones that know they can do a better job.

Let's not forget that both Worley and Bradberry have either been nominated for defensive player or the top rated DB of the week.  This indicates potential.  Rookies and growing pains but Rookies.  They'll get better.

Gettleman philosophy is "You are never one player away".  Norman was going to cost us and that may have hurt the ultimate goals of this team.   Collins was going to cost NE and they let him go for a 3rd rounder.

Bottom line both teams let a player that could have helped them this year go to for a 3rd round pick.

New England had him under contract so they could have had him through the year but will get basically a late 2nd rounder because Cleveland will be lucky if they win a game.

The pick is conditional on the Browns receiving a compensatory third rounder. They're expecting to based on their personnel moves, but it isn't guaranteed.

Basically, Collins was traded for a pick the Browns might not even get, so he could wind up being traded for nothing.

If they don't get a comp pick, the pick will be a fourth round pick in 2018.

Not for us it doesn't but for New England it does.  The compensatory picks come AFTER the 3rd round is complete.   As of now Cleveland is the #1 pick in the first round.  So yes it does have an impact.  The New England pick is like a LATE second rounder.    You are talking nearly a 30 or 40 player difference.

That assumes that NE wouldn't sign anyone to counteract the comp pick gained from Collins walking. By trading him, they're guaranteed the pick no matter what they do in FA.

Browns realistically might of gave up a pick to rent Collins for 8 games and he signs with another team next year
