Unnecessary Roughness 101

You haven't been here long enough to get that call

My roots were planted in Charlotte long before "Ace Boogie" was our QB and reading dumb posts like yours prior to making an account when the app was released. Humor me with some logic on the situation if you have any. For the record I hate seeing Tom Brady get the call while Cam doesn't as much as anyone...

Major League Baseball umpires are full-time and union'ed.  Pretty sure NBA officials are too.

Guess what?  THEY'RE JUST AS HORRIBLE AS NFL OFFICIALS.

I repeat, "full time officials" isn't an answer or a "step in the right direction"... its an excuse.  And the fact that the NFL has it under consideration only means one thing to me... that the NFL has found an ideal excuse to cover-up for their continued lack of accountability when it comes to their horrible officiating.

The whole union thing is a joke.   I feel like the refs and the shield have so much dirt on each other that thye just have to make it work.

Gonna make alot of people mad with this. But here goes.

Can't help but wonder to myself if even half of the people here talking about Cam's race being a factor and crapping on the league for what appears to many as race-related officiating would give the same effort to defending and calling out such things to another black man...that...perhaps...isn't on your favorite team?

Such treatment happens to people of color every day. Most don't care. Most overlook it because it doesn't affect them personally. Yet here....so many will get so upset and wear the cape of equality and fairness....because this particular black man is on OUR team?

I mean... you're on a panthers forum.

I know you are just trying to make a point. And I get it. We are all trying to find answers as to why Cam seems to be treated differently.

But c'mon man. You can't possibly believe that the rule makers were able to foresee a QB like Cam when they made that rule? That they put in "Forcible" just in case refs in teh future might need the ambiguity the wording would allow? Or that they just recently put it in to protect their refs?

Panther fans are not the only ones that see what is happening. If the outcry can continue to build up steam? Maybe, just maybe, something will be done.

Or not.

As @Khyber53  said. Wentz flopped like a hooked trout. He defiantly made it look worse than it was. No way was that play flag worthy.

I don't think there is a real outcry.  Players, teams, owners, refs all laughing at us right now and everyone cares about their own team too much to worry about ours.  NC/SC would literally all have to stop watching games and going to games to get real action.

There has been more and more media jumping on this subject. There is plenty of talk about QB safety going around. And some are using Cam as an example. The lack of flags being thrown by the refs is a league wide problem. Not just a Cam problem.

I watch a lot of sport talk. And it is being discussed more and more. So if it can pick up some more steam. It is going to be very difficult for the NFL to ignore it. Cam has a role in all this, because he is being watched right now. But so are most QBs at the moment.

Every time a flag isn't thrown, the media is watching. Every time a Wentz gets that call, the media is watching. We just need the media to adopt this as a mission. IMO, until the media blows this up, things may take a while to sort out. So yeah, I have even heard talk about having to reword the rule.

Fans, unfortunately, really don't have much of a voice in this. No one listens to us. But if the media jumps on this big time. We have a shot at some sort of reform.

tl/dr version; Protect my dang QB would ya!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've noticed that you haven't been around as much this year and I figured that was because you were really, really busy or your interest (as you describe above) had waned or a combination of both.

It's mostly been busyness.  Two key work colleagues are on extended leaves (one planned, the other unplanned due to a health emergency) and so I've got a lot of extra stuff on my plate.  I've still followed all the Panthers games, but have had no time to even look at stats (other than what Voth puts out) let alone do any stat crunching of my own.  Perhaps if we'd been having an exciting season I would have made some more time, as I did last year when i sacrificed sleep quite a lot of nights to dig into Panthers data..., but this year after about week 4 I just couldn't justify sacrificing sleep to do that.

tbh as someone who watches primarily Panthers games now, I have no idea how other games are called at this point.  I try to put myself in another fans shoes and wonder what I would think from the outside looking in as someone who doesn't watch other games and I probably wouldn't care either.  The notion of big MVP dabbin Cam being a crybaby is a narrative that fits nicely so the media sells it.

I realize you are not making excuses, just explaining your situation. But let me tell you one thing. You have nothing to apologize for. You have gone above and beyond on multiple occasions. As long as you don't forget us altogether. You good.

And Happy Holidays. Or whatever you folks on teh other side of the world do this time of year.

I mean I could, but won't help you understand it better. Cam isn't black like Dak, or Russell Wilson. Cam is what you call loud black. You see most racist can put up with blacks that "stay in their place" and don't make too much noise, but Cam makes noise. He dances, he showboats, he talks trash. Basically the same things Tom Brady does but instead of the words "immature" you hear the word "passionate" associated with Tom Brady. To think Race and the way Cam prances around the field doesn't have anything to do with whether the flags come out is naive.

I appreciate your thoughts on the matter. It's a shame that there are people that feel that way. I personally can't stand Rodgers or Brady because they are arrogant douche bags to say it nicely.

The problem is there's a constant need for the powers that be to make sure Cam knows his place. Take it how you want, but it is what it is. Russell gets the call but what people fail to understand is Russell is exactly what they want the black quarterback to be. Cam is big, strong, cocky, a freak athlete and marches to the beat of his own drum. He doesn't play like other quarterbacks, he doesn't dress like them, he doesn't talk like them, he doesn't act like them. The NFL doesn't want him as the face of their league. He wasn't supposed to be MVP, he was supposed to be a bust according to some. Then he called Ed Hocchuli out and that was the icing on the cake.

What kind of high quality weed are you smoking? The NFL has been marketing the daylights out of Scam Newtons running back azz for years now. If anything they want to protect their investment. Referees blow calls all the time. In fact Matt Ryan was decked sever times after the whistle by the Seahags and didn't draw a flag. Awesome post, oozing with reasonable amounts of objections. If your observational ability speaks to the quality of your juice, then I'm buying that poo and giving it to my annoying coworker.
