Kony Ealy deserves his props

I'll give him some credit as well.

As much as everyone has been giving Kony Ealy flak for not living up to his Superbowl 50 standards, he's still been a solid piece in our DE rotation.

Look no further than the strip-sack against Ryan

Ealy sack v Falcons

Kony Ealy applies pressure, gets the edge rush, and hits home on Matt Ryan. Unlucky for us, a Falcon recovered it, but it was mighty close to being a catastrophe for the Falcons.

He's been hot when he gets hot, and he certainly has potential. Hopefully this offseason he'll actually apply and put forth some work on his technique, and he may be more than just a "one game wonder."

I would hate the Ealy pick a lot less if I wasn't wanting Allen Robinson so badly.

The guy can look so good in flashes, but he disappears for weeks on end. I'm just not sure if it's ever going to click for him, but I am sure that we shouldn't be counting on it. If it happens, awesome. If it doesn't, well we've already factored that into our plans.

i like kony but i think the expectation of "1st round graded guy" or "blue goose pass rusher" has made him look bad. the guy is meant to be the second pass rusher, not the all-star. i believe that if we can get an athletic freak stud across from him, kony will look totally different and hit around 10-11 sacks a year with other goodies. in that situation, kony's floor goes up and his big games will look even better.

i actually think that whole draft was a group of guys who are meant to be "the other guy". bene was a good second guy when fully healthy, kony was good when allen was across from him, kb is similar to kony in flashes of top dog potential but overall would be great as the second guy.

that's what you get when you have success before the team is fully built. this draft will be so good for us, we'll finally get another crack at guys truly destined for that blue goose status.

He didn't have a bad season. He played to his norm. This season is what he's been for his entire career. He played out of his mind in that Super Bowl, but unfortunately that looks like an anomaly.

He has the potential to be a dominant DE, he's just terribly inconsistent. At some point, you have to give up on a guy having it all come together for him. I'm at that point for both Ealy and Funchess. If it clicks for them, great but we have to stop relying on that in terms of our personnel decisions.

For the amount of compensation spent, I have a varying degree of buyer's remorse regarding Ealy. Even still, I'll optimistically proclaim his upside as good, just not great. Neither the flashes or the general solid play have been as consistent as I want to see in a second round pick (esp. one with a first round grade).

We have high character guys on this team. Much better and more palatable than the trash that plays for teams like cincinnati and Denver.

Too bad that Shula and remmers didnt show up to SB50 because Ealy would have singlehandedly ruined the golden boy's last game.

It ain't Remmers and Shula's fault. NFL gave that SB to Manning.
