When the Denver job came open, I expected Shanahan to be a shoo-in, but only recently I started reading rumors that John Elway and Papa Shanahan were no longer on good terms with each other.

True? Don't know, but seems likely.

Does not surprise me. Thought that might be the case when I heard the hire. Seems a little curious to hire a defensive guy for that team right now...especially...hasn't he been a DC just 1 season?

Would it be wrong to think that Elway has to make sure he is the big boss of this team? Does he need to over extend his control?  Can't have a high profile coach or one whose father was his coach?

Hard to say.

Elway's always been known to have an ego, but who at that level doesn't?

Elway has done a solid job as GM for them. Helped bring some consistency, Super Bowl twice while winning it once, and helped build that defense to a power. Let's see if he gets it right with this coach hire.

There were rumors that Kubiak left because Elway was going to force him to fire some staff he didn't want to fire.
