Whether it's Fournette, Barnett, Hooker or Allen..... we will get a franchise building block at a position of need. Moving down, IMO, puts us in the next tier of talent.  Though it is still solid, we truly have a chance to land a top tier talent to our roster..... something we haven't had since Luke, and also a draft slot I doubt we will see for quite a few years.

Agree with this.  Especially if we have that 3rd round comp pick due to Josh Norman leaving, I don't think G'man will or should trade down.  Dave won't give up a hopefully very rare chance to draft in the top 10.  With the talent on our roster, we should ALWAYS be picking in the 20s or 30s, so this is a chance I'm sure Gettleman wants to savor and knock out of the park.  I think Quality matters more than quantity.  We don't have THAT many holes or openings for starters on our roster.

Depending on who we get in FA, in the draft I see 5-6 positions we should aim for (not nec in order of priority)

1) OT

2) DE

3) S

4) RB / FB

5) TE

6) WR maybe if the right guy is there... (a speedy slot guy),

And, maybe more CB depth (nickel)

A few months ago, I would have put Center high on the list too, to groom someone behind Kalil, but perhaps Larsen could be that guy.  His strong showing when both Kalil & Gradkowski landed on IR was one of the few positives of this season....

I really hope we don't move down from 8. I really want Adams, but logically, I don't see a scenario in which he is available at 8. He's one of those "has it all/low risk/top players" in this draft and could fit a few teams picking before us. If he is sitting there, I see no way in which Carolina doesn't run the card up to the podium lightning fast.

So, of the options that are realistically available, we should be able to select a stud at 8.

All of you arguing against trading down,  let me propose a scenario.  Let's say the front office likes 4 or 5 players at 8. For arguments sake,  Fournette,  Peppers,  Adams,  Hooker,  and Williams.  Now,  we have them all similarly graded.   Our turn to pick comes and all 5 (or 4/5) are available.   There was a run on CBs,  QBs,  or DTs or something. Why the hell wouldn't we trade down to 12 or 13 and pick up an extra second or 3rd round choice?  We're still guaranteed a player we value.  And we get additional selections.

The other thing that could happen is that all of the players that the team has in that first tier are gone.  Would be another reason to draft down.

I agree if one of those top players fall to us then you take them and consider yourself lucky, but if they are gone then trading down becomes a really viable option.  How those tiers are populated most of us will never know.

Tier 1: players 1-5

Tier 2: players 6-12

or

Tier 1: players 1-3

Tier 2: players 4-8

Tier 3: players 9-12

Personally I think something like Fournette, Adams, Garrett, and Allen might be our top tier, but who knows.

until the NFL combine is over, mock drafts are pretty much a crap shoot time waster

They're a waste even then but what else do fans have?  I doubt the combine changes too much however.  Some tweaks but the word and film of months and years on these guys is already out.

In this ultra unlikely scenario that five players have the same exact grade AND fill a need, go for it.

Barnett at 31 seems to be a prediction that he'll do poor at the combine. Most have said that even though he has great on field performance, his measurable and agility numbers won't be all that impressive. All that said, no way he lasts all the way to 31.

    • I’m old enough to remember when I wanted to draft Njoku We brought back Mitchell and officially kept Tremble. Mitchell Evans isn’t going anywhere. Sanders who knows, he was awful last year I fully agree we need a better TE. This room is awful Njoku would be a massive help in the red zone. However it really seems like Dan and the FO prefer to go young on offense
    • You’re underselling Loveland imo. He’s so damn good. You can line him out wide and count on him to win 1 v 1. I don’t see that from Sadiq. Loveland is going to go over 1000 yards next season I’m not overly asking for a WR3. It’s just one of the few directions Morgan could go in round 1.  Let’s say Thieneman, Fano and Cooper are all on the board it’s a tough decision. I just don’t see how this team would take Sadiq over some of those guys given the way they run their offense. Our tight end room is easily bottom of the league so I can definitely see why someone would want a tight end though. At one point during the season I was on the Sadiq train as well. I just don’t think value wise for us specifically it makes sense given our team as a whole As far as tight ends go in this draft I really like Max Klare. Very smooth mover
    • Some of you need some serious help with the way 9 lives rent free in your heads I know for a fact, Dan loves Bryce. Bryce is his guy. This offense is very young and they’re asking Bryce to do a lot. With Idzik taking over playcalling duties it’s a move that is another step in the process of Bryce taking control of the offense. 24 years old. This youth movement on offense and putting more on 9’s shoulders is going to pay off in the long run
