Draft value trade chart calculations

Growl

Recommended Posts

You may remember a poster (me) in January starting a thread saying to watch the boring AFC Divisional playoffs because there's a legitimate possibility we try to move into one of those spots.

That now seems possible. As it stands,

40+64=23

8+40+64=4

I'd say the chart is a tad dated with the implementation of the 5th year option, but its worth keeping in mind for a range.

I could get on board with this if you explained the equations a bit

There is chart for this out there for any and all possible draft pick trades, I know what he's talking about and it sounds right. But that chart is also very dated. It's from before the rookie salary cap, and  it doesn't take into account variables like the strength of a draft class.

What he's saying if with our first pick we get.

Option A: Hope Fournette or Adams or preferred DE falls or pick BPA with our 1st pick. Package 2nd round picks to move up and get OJ/Ross in mid first.

Option B: Utilize our additional picks 2nds to move up to 4 where we can get whoever we really want.

There's a league wide trading chart for draft picks. Each pick in the draft has a numerical value in descending order from the first to the last.

Teams use the chart to trade fairly with one another. The chart you'll find floating around the web is out of date but its still a good reference.

OJ Howard is probably a top 10 pick. We probably aren't moving back into the teens.

26 (or so)/seems like a possibility.

IF we had the 4th pick in this draft and someone offered the 8th and 40th and 64th I'd do it before they finished their sentence and then sell them a bridge in swamp  land that leads to no where.

And then watch my team commence with the first ever 3 peat in NFL history.

I don't either. This draft is too deep to trade up.

I would be surprised if we move from #8, but I've been surprised all day. I think that the more likely scenario is bundling our two second round picks to move into the mid twenties if our guy is there

That one I can see much more easily. There is a bit more of a drop off from the 20s in the 1st to 40, but honestly there are always surprises, so I think 40 will have a lot of value. That said, with all the FA moves, we don't exactly have tons of roster spots, especially with the extra 3rd.

Another thought is that we can take the 3rd comp + 4th and move up to pick 83. Then you've got 8, 40, 64 and 83 and maybe four potential starters (2 immediate/2 future). Lots of potential and this year we definitely have some draft chips to play.

Funny that last year we had 30, 62 and 93 (should have been 31, 63 and 95) and this year we've got 8, 40, 64 and 98 (and 115). It is almost like last year's draft, but throw in Leonard Fournette or Solomon Thomas or Jamal Adams. Love that.

Fournette (or Howard if he's gone) bolles or ramcyzk (SP?) at 25. RB and DE at 98 and 115. I still we pick up another WR via fa.

    • Saints trade WR Shaheed to Seahawks Seahawks get: WR Rashid Shaheed Saints get: 2026 fourth-round pick, 2026 fifth-round pick Seahawks' grade: A- Saints' grade: B+ One of the NFL's hottest passing teams just got better. The Seahawks currently rank third in EPA per dropback (0.25) and first in success rate on dropbacks (53%). And now they are adding Shaheed in a move that makes sense both on the field and in terms of where the Seahawks are as a franchise. Shaheed, 27, is averaging 1.8 yards per route run this season. But I think that sells him short because that number is down a bit from his career average entering this year (2.0) and he's been playing a role that includes running fewer vertical routes (34%) compared to last year (44%). Shaheed also has consistently posted above-average open scores in ESPN's receiver score metrics, including a 63 this season that ranks 28th among wide receivers. As a complement to Jaxon Smith-Njigba, I expect Shaheed will run downfield more often and be a bigger threat in that role than rookie Tory Horton was. When Cooper Kupp returns, he and Shaheed will make for a nice pair of secondary threats behind one of the best receivers in the league in Smith-Njigba. This is the time to strike for the Seahawks. FPI gives Seattle an 84% chance to make the playoffs and a 5% shot at winning the Super Bowl. This addition helps boost their chances without mortgaging their future the way the Colts did in the Sauce Gardner trade. Shaheed is a pending free agent but given the leverage of the moment for the Seahawks and their need I think they ought to be plenty willing to pay the cost. Shaheed is young enough to where if Seattle doesn't retain him he should sign a free agent contract that would yield Seattle a compensatory pick -- if the Seahawks don't nullify that pick with signings of their own. Because the Seahawks currently have $79 million in cap space next year, per OverTheCap, getting that compensatory pick is not guaranteed. The Saints are not rolling in cap space the way the Seahawks are -- and thus would land a compensatory pick for Shaheed -- but they got more draft capital this way than they otherwise would have. Considering New Orleans' 1-8 record, this should have been an easy decision.
