Who's your top 8 candidates for pick 8?

Get them to camp and figure it out. I like Coleman, but Kurt Coleman isn't a reason to pass on a prospect like Hooker IMO.

With that said, there's been little to nothing to indicate that we're seriously interested in Hooker so it's probably a moot point. Evidently, Panthers brass DO think Kurt Coleman is a reason to pass on a prospect like Hooker.

Definitely plausible that we could take him if he's far and away the BPA and actually still there at 8.

I just think other players with similar grades may be there but then again I have no idea what their actual board looks like.

I kind of narrowed my list down by players being consensus top 10 picks by the experts and then adjusted align with need in the next 1-2 years.

If I was simply looking at as for a 2017 run only, I think Davis would be the best pick but maybe not the  BPA.

However if we plan on being a consistent playoff contender we wont have a chance at drafting anywhere near this level of talent again for years to come, so we have to pick the right player. Hopefully we can grab a another cornerstone like Luke or Cam.

Basically, my top-10 big board (for the Panthers) excluding Garrett:

1. Solomon Thomas

2. Jamal Adams

3. Leonard Fournette

4. Jonathan Allen

5. Malik Hooker

6. OJ Howard

7. Marshon Lattimore

...and then there's a tier drop and I can't really figure out 8.

In my dreams:

Trade down to 18 with Redskins for their next years overall no.1 pick because they're gonna stink this year. >Use next years no1 pick Sam Darnold to extort a QB needy team to give up the farm to trade up. > Set for the next 5 years. >Oh yeah and pick up a decent mid-rounder this year in the meantime-Ross, Barnett, CB, Njoku.

At 8 there are 5 guys I want; 1; Barnett, 2; Fournette, 3; Adams, 4;  Lattimore , 5; Howard

I would add Garrett but obviously he won't be there..

Responding to this thread should be required for future complaining.  I expect some of our more frequent complainers won't respond for that very reason.

Also going the "trade down" route is a bit weak since there is no guarantee that you can find a team that wants to trade up.  Now saying the point in the draft you would start looking to trade down would make sense, but you still have to have your top 8 just incase.

My list definitely wouldn't be BPA

Garrett - in a tier by himself

Thomas - Adams might be the better prospect but I went with the DE for positional value

Adams - In my opinion one of the safer good players

Look to trade down

Fournette - RBs scare me this high

McCaffrey - can make a difference to our offense as much as anyone in the draft if used properly

Davis - If he played at a big school would have a lot more hype.  Might turn out to be best offensive player in this draft.

Howard - Another good player that seems very safe

Lattimore - everyone needs corners

Allen deserves to be on the list but something about him makes me nervous and I'm guilty of factoring need in a lot.

I have a top 5 at 8 or I'd say trading down is ideal

1. Solomon Thomas- The more pass rush the merrier.

2. Leonard Fournette- He would be #1 but with Stewart he's honestly a luxury not a necessity. He is the best all around option imo.

3. Jamal Adams- When was the last time you could truly say you were comfortable with both safety's we had out on D?

4. Malik Hooker/Marshon Lattimore- This is a tie because both are a push for me imo, love to have either of none of the rest were available tough choice between the two though.

5. Christian McCaffrey- I wanted to go Barnett here but unless he has some untapped potential he's honestly too raw to trust this high for me kind of like how Dion Jordan was drafted way too high years ago. In the teens I'd love him top 10 I'd prefer a safer pick.

If none of these guys are available imo a trade down would be a blessing in disguise but you never know what's on Gettleman's draft board he could be looking at someone nobody expected, i.e. James Bradberry, Amini Silatolu, Edmund Kugbila type picks he's a very interesting character he likes who he likes and doesn't gaf about anyone!!!

Can it be the 27th already sheesh!

1. Garrett - this guy has Julius Peppers type potential

2. Fournette - yeah, I think he really could be the next AP

3. Thomas - I think he's a more athletic version of CJ

4. Hooker - should be the best safety the Panthers have ever had

5. Adams - ditto the above, I have him behind Hooker because I feel like a true centerfielder type of safety is a harder piece to find than a SS

6. Lattimore - pair him up with Bradberry and we should be set at outside CB for years

7. Howard - we love double TE sets, but our #2 TE sucks. Immediately upgrade what we do, plus get Olsen's heir apparent

8. McCaffrey - the wildcard.

I wouldn't change a thing.  Good list.

    • Ummm not sure adding anther 5'9 180 pound soaking wet forward is the way to go here.....
    • What has happened in HS athletics busted full force into the college world with this NIL/transfer portal stuff. HS sports has been jacked up for a long time now. You have all these "prep schools" that are basically just diploma mills for athletes who hoover up all the good athletes they can get and they're all on scholarship. Then they go out and recruit decent athletes with rich parents to come onboard and pay outrageous tuition while they tout their success at getting their athletes college scholarships. Yeah, those athletes getting college scholarships are the same ones you're giving scholarships to so that you can use them to recruit the rich kids whose parents can pay for it all. You see the same thing in youth travel ball leagues. The whole thing is just getting crazy.
    • It's your right to refer to it as vague, but it still flouts the theory of "zero evidence" that Tepper is changing. Here's another: "Carolina Panthers head coach Dave Canales and general manager Dan Morgan are reportedly being given a larger leadership role within the organization. Panthers owner David Tepper 'has taken a more hands-off approach of late,' according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. 'He's trying to trust Canales and GM Dan Morgan to get it right, knowing that the roster requires patience in its current state,' Fowler wrote. 'We shall see if he holds to that.'" https://bleacherreport.com/articles/10146782-report-panthers-david-tepper-has-taken-a-more-hands-off-approach-to-team   ""David Tepper just wants to win and he's gonna supply everything that we need to win.. Things are changing around here and things are looking really positive" ~ Dan Morgan  https://x.com/PatMcAfeeShow/status/1917639137550627107?t=6vgo8yXTO6eD0Gb55hyzNg&s=19   From about 2:15-6:35, Julian Council, Locked on Panthers, gives his take on whether Tepper seems to be changing (and specifically referenced the war room in his analysis):    Dean Jones of Cat Crave on David Tepper in the war room. "He was an innocent bystander throughout a hugely important decision, placing full trust in Morgan and Tilis to make the right call." Jones also quoted Pat McAfee: "What I noticed though, at one point, they looked at (David) Tepper to get an answer, Tepper didn’t say sh*t. All anybody has said about Tepper is that he’s hands-on, hands-on, hands-on. Too handsy, too involved. He’s not letting the football people do their thing. We just watched in the biggest moment for their franchise, a top ten pick, he just sat there and let everybody do their jobs. I think if you’re a Panthers fan, you love everything you saw there." https://catcrave.com/silence-from-david-tepper-becomes-panthers-loudest-victory Granted, you're not getting a major headline here, but that's not going to happen anyway. Fowler isn't exactly a nobody, everybody knows McAfee, and you also have some locals that follow the team (including Dean Jones). Of course you have a right to believe that Tepper hasn't really changed, but to say there is no evidence that he just may be changing is not really true. It's just not. Hate the guy, but the way that he has handled this current regime is different than he handled previous teams, and his silence in the war room and publicly in general is different than years back.
