Bills are working out top QBs

Workouts with Trubisky and Mahomes so far.

Why is this relevant to the Panthers?

Let's say our top prospects are off the board at #8. It's widely speculated that the Browns will take Garrett at #1 and look to add a QB at #12. If it looks like Buffalo is primed to take a QB at #10, Cleveland may be in the market to try to get in front of them.

I know Gettleman has never traded down before, but this could potentially be the makings of a situation where he would. Dave likes his draft ammo and swapping picks with Cleveland and picking up another early round pick would give him more ammo to potentially jump back up into the mid-late 1st to grab another guy.

Just food for thought and something else to talk and speculate about while there's nothing but speculation to talk about...

I've been talking about this for a while now in various threads. The ideal situation with our position of the draft is trading down with a mid round team to pick up another 2nd rounder. So for example we trade down only 4 spots with the Browns, they get whatever QB they want, and we probably get either Barnett, McCaffrey, Ross, or Howard I believe.

So lets just say we drafted McCaffrey at 12. Then we would have ideally the Browns R2P1 ,our R2P8, and R2P32 . Use the two high 2nd rounders to get back into the mid or late 1st. For what player? I'm not really sure . Or he could just keep them and we stockpile on some great talent. There's still going to be a lot of talent left on the board at the top of round 2, I'm thinking if we get lucky Ramcyzk , Robinson, or Bolles could drop there.

Good Good, Very Good!

If Fournette and Adams is gone, I'd throw that Trade the Browns took last year roght at them.

Last year the Browns gave the #8 and a 6th to the Titans for

#15, 3rd rounder and this years 2nd.

Give them #8 and our 5th this year for #12 a 2nd and a 3rd (next year)
They are Strapped with picks so they should be able to go down with this deal easily

I know Gettleman has never done it before but I can definitely see a trade down scenario this year to 10 or 12

Here's why: IF our top coveted prospects (Tier 1a) are gone (Adams, Fournette, Thomas) I can see Gettleman saying that a Tier 1b guys (Howard, McAffrey will still be there at 10 or 12) we can then use whatever other pick we aquire to again move up back into the first or up in the second.

Gettleman before has cautioned against trading down out of the first- but that's when we were at the end of the first and there would be a drop off in talent by trading into the second.

If there is no drop off in talent between 8 and 12 bank on him doing it, but if a top tier guy is there they won't field trade calls- guaranteed.

We could take their mid second rounder, pair it with #64, and move up to the very end of the first round if there was someone we wanted that slid. We should be able to do this with keeping 2/40.

Three of the top 40 picks is strong.

I honestly don't know if it's a reasonable possibility or not. Dave has been very adamant and very clear regarding his thoughts on trading down in the past. But, like was mentioned earlier, this is a different situation. We have a top 10 pick, not one at the bottom of the round. We could easily move down in this draft and stay in the 1st round. It also looks like there's at least a decent chance that all the guys at the top of our wishlist could be gone by #8. I'm still not entirely sold on the idea that we'd actually take McCaffrey at #8.

The catch 22 is if one or more QBs go before our pick that increases our chance of a top prospect falling to us, but if no QBs that increase our chance of trading down.

Other issue is Cincinnati, any time looking to trade in front of the Bills will probably call them first. Because of that you might get a reduced value on your trade down. In a perfect world you want multiple teams looking to trade up.

He also raved how much overall talent there was in this draft. When we traded Ealy he talked how big it was to have 2 2nds.

Adams and Fournette gone, there may not be a guy at 8 that wont be around for us at 12. Especially if you can pick up Another 2nd and possible future 3rd

If fournette is gone, I'd love a trade down to 12. Should still be able to get a good player there without much drop off from 8 and pick up an extra 2nd. Walk away from the draft with OJ Howard or a top CB or something at 12 and trade up for McCaffrey or an OT or something at the bottom of the 1st and still have a 2nd. That'd work out pretty damn well for us.

Using that other pick to trade up wouldnt be bad.

I put the trade scenario with Cleveland and
Browns went Garrett and Trubisky (good haul for them and still have pick 33)

Our picks
#12 OJ Howard
#40 Obi Melfonwu (great potential and good prospect to Groom under vet Adams)
#52 Teez Tabor
#64 Zay Jonez
#98 Tanoh Kpassagnon

All guys we've met with

Tennessee could be a cog.

There is some chance that the Jets could be looking into a QB at #6, despite their needs elsewhere.

If Cleveland is scared by that at all, they could find a familiar partner with Tennessee at #5.

Tennessee also has pick #18, but no pick in the second round... thanks to Cleveland...

I could see Cleveland sending picks 1/12 and 2/1 to Tenn for 1/5. That'd give Tennessee three picks in the first 33.

That could be a curse or a blessing for us, in that one less player we'd be looking at would be off the board, but Cleveland is probably the most ideal trade back partner.

I still say if our guys are off the board and we want to gain value by trading down, we need to answer Washington or Baltimore's call if they want to come up for someone.

I just dont see the Jets going QB.

As you said they have major needs elsewhere.

They Have drafted QBs the last couple of years. There were rumors coming out of NY that the staff up there likes what they see in Hackenberg. Only people who are projecting them getting another QB are writers who are only projected due to team needing a QB similar how for years writers had us getting a TE or Safety in the 1st (seemed like a 5 year span everyone projected us to get one)
