So you're willing to suggest this class is so deep we will buck the trend and come away with more than 2 good starters? Thats the precedent we've gotten out of Gettleman  in years past.

So why not hedge your bets if the right guy is there at 17?

I see your opinion and there's validity depending on your view of DG. I think this the most armed DG has been heading into a draft, based just on how high his picks are, as well as multiple 2nd rounders. I do think we move up (probably early-mid twenties, less expensive..... and/or in the 2nd round).

The thought of a top-flight player (Thomas, LF, Howard) at 8 and then someone like Ross, Davis, Njoku, Barnett at 17 is pretty enticing, but the first pick is a given regardless of trade.  Then, we are giving up a 2nd rounder, essentially the first pick in the 3rd, a 4th and 6th in order to select someone at 17.

To walk away with Ross/Njoku/Davis/Barnett and then not select until the 5th round is not my flavor.

I think we can add a stud at 8, and at least two more studs, along with at least 2 more starters in this draft. This is DG's value to the franchise, and to handcuff him with this trade, IMO, is not a good move.

Based on Draft value chart 5 + 17 is like 2,650 points and 8+40+64 is 2,300. Based on that it's a good trade if they have two of "their guys" at 5 and 17. Gettleman values quality over quantity. We've seen that in recent drafts. I'd do it for McCaffrey and Ross. Or go ahead and take McCaffrey and Obi

I don't care what the points chart says, that's awful for Tennessee.

Here is the best argument I have in favor of the trade. Its basically moving up from 40 to 17.

Plus we have to give up 64 (Kony Ealy was Taken 60th)

Plus we give up 98 (Darly Williams was taken 102)

Plus a 5th and 6th rounder (Think Bene,Gaffney,Klein,Barner, Sanchzez).

To put it in Gettleman terms.

So 1 silver dollar(pick 8), and a 50 cent piece(pick 17). Vs a silver dollar(pick 8), A quarter(pick 40),A dime (pick 64) and a nickel (pick 98) and a couple pennies in the 5th and 6th rounders.

Again, it's a draft decision, if the board falls right.

Could equate to something as Awesome as Fournette and OJ Howard or John Ross. Or it may end up something like Corey Davis and McCaffrey.

Or if the board goes to poo we just don't do it.

The titans have picks 5 and 17 but no 2nd rounders and dont have another pick until 100 comes up.

The trade chart shows we could trade 40,64,98,115 and 192 for pick 17.

Why it works for us? 2 first rounders. Plus Gettleman probably  couldn't care less about our 4th round pick and beyond in the grand scheme of things, given his track record after round 3.

Why it works for them, they acquire 2 2nd rounders, a comp 3rd and 4th and 6th round pick. Where as they have no 2nd and their only 3rd is a comp pick.

Of course it depends on who's there at 17 but I could see this making some sense.

Yes that what I have in my draft scenario

Draft Fournette at #8

Then move up #18 and grab OJHoward or McCaffrey

Trade the two 2nd round pick along with future pick and Funchess

Nope, next scenario please.  I sadistically like these threads, but no way should we give up 2 day 2 picks for 1 player in this deep of a draft.

Here's some scenarios if you find a willing trade partner.

1.Package 40,64,98,115 and 192 for pick 17 and keep 152 + 233 (no value) - You end up with 8,17,152 and 233

2.Package 64,98,115,152 for pick 43-- You end up with 8,40,43 and 233

3.Package 98,115,152 and 192 for pick 75 -- You end up with 8, 40,64, 75 and 233

4. Package 115,152, and 192 for pick 99. ---   You end up with 8,40,64,98,99, and 233

5. Do nothing and you end up with 8,40,64,98,115,152 and 233.

Personally I'd do number 4 today without hesitation. I would consider number 1 on draft day only, if the right player falls to pick 17.

I asked this earlier on another post but I'll ask it again. How many rookies do you guys think actually have a chance of making the team and making a solid contribution?  If it's only 3 or 4 you may consider dropping picks to get sure fire contributors. Still, you deal is pretty steep.

No one will trade for Funchess. Get it through your brain
