If you actually read what I said about him, I said I don't mind him stating an opinion IF he can do it without thinking he's holier than thou. That's the only problem I have with him and he's been doing it more and more this year. The fact that our FO and coach are sucking it up big time right now and Gantt constantly sucking them off while demeaning the fans, only pisses off alot of people who once thought he was a good jounalist. He's a professional journalist who's job is to report. His job relies on Panther fans reading his articles. The same fans he puts down.

This is a message board. People are going to state opinions. People are going to disagree. I dont give attitude unless attitude is given to me first. The only exception is when a post is as stupid as any of fignewty's posts.

Gantt is a professional journalist whos job is to report to the fans. Not make them think their opinions are worthless in the process. He's only hurting himself in the long run if he keeps up with this style of journalism.

It's a d@mn blog. Similiar to a message board, stating opinions is what it's for. It's not a news report. And who the hell are we to assume that there aren't Panther fans who agree with him? Because you don't, you think others won't?

Your first 3 "facts", yeah, are facts. The rest are assumptions. You even state "...I don't give a sh*t about..." which is putting a little too much "you" in your "facts". But you can have your opinions. Just don't jump down anyone's throat if they disagree.

Where did I state there wouldn't be others that'll agree with him?

It's an assumption that Gantt ignored the mishaps of Fox and the FO this season in order to support Fox? Its an assumption great coaches aren't inconsistent? Its an assumption that great coaches hire coordinators that help the team? I don't think those are assumptions at all.

And I don't have a problem with someone disagreeing with me.

Anyone else find the humor in people getting mad that someone is expressing his opinions in a blog?

Next thing you know they'll start playing music on the radio.

That, plus the notion that he's just sucking up to the Panthers and these can't possibly be his honest opinions.

Gantt has written articles critical of the Panthers before. But he feels in this case that the fans are being premature. There are other fans that feel that way too. I'm not one of them, but I accept that it's a legitimate way of looking at things.

And so Gantt's critical of us. Big deal. We're pretty critical of each other on a regular basis. Why should his opinion hurt?

which is the crux of the argument, really. People seem to be butthurt that they're not being validated on something that probably won't happen this early.

So Gantt chose to write about only one thing in his blog and you assume he's a coddler?

Its an assumption great coaches aren't inconsistent?
You also said, "That is called settling with mediocrity." You are assuming that Fox is settling for mediocrity?

Its an assumption that great coaches hire coordinators that help the team?
Sounds like you're assuming that our coordinators don't want to help the team or won't? You also said, "Not hire coordinators that will only do what he says." Assuming that Fox dictates to the coordinators and won't let them think?

And I don't have a problem with someone disagreeing with me.

Neither do I. :cheers2:

Then let me revise since the fact part wasn't clear..

FACT: Darin Gantt is a Panthers FO coddler. He decided to ignore all the misshaps this organization has had recently and instead talks about Fox's overall record then compares it to some other coach that I don't give a sh*t about in an attempt to make him look great. He then tries to put Cowher in the same sentence as these 2 coaches.

FACT: Gantt ignored the mishaps of Fox and the FO this season in order to support Fox

FACT: Great coaches don't have a winning season followed by a losing season over and over again throughout their entire tenure with a team. That is called being inconsistent. That is called settling with mediocrity.

FACT: Great coaches aren't inconsistent

FACT: Great coaches make changes when things are going bad. They hire coordinators that HELP the team. Not hire coordinators that will only do what he says. They also don't call up a QB who is constantly hurting the team and tell him that he's sticking with him no matter if he stinks it up the next game, or the next game, or the game after that.

FACT: Great coaches hire coordinators that help the team. (Ours haven't this year. Simple as that. Not saying anything more or less. Just that.)

Those were the facts I was trying to get across. I went into more detail in order to back up the facts, but I guess that part is where my opinion came into play. So there, I made it more clear. Hope that's settled.

As far as us as members on this board and Gantt... I think it's fine for us to argue with each other back and forth. This is a fan message baord. Yes sometimes some people are going to belittle someone. For me like i said, I only do it if its done to me. We are not professionals and are not getting paid and are not dependant on others to read what we say in order to keep our jobs. Gantt is. What he says, whether it's a blog or article, will affect how people think of him.

Honestly, we need to start doing to Gantt what smart people do to any troll. Ignore him. As of 10pm, this thread had over 1,000 views. If 90% of them clicked on the Herald link in the first post, that's 900 views for the Herald site that wouldn't have happened otherwise. The Huddle is probably the main source for views on that nothing town's site. He knows that if he keeps slurping the team, outraged Huddlers will continue to flock to his blog to see what stupid stuff he's said this time. More views helps advertising revenue for the Herald site. That keeps Gantt's chances of being employed afloat in an era where small papers are laying off all non-essential personnel.

Starve the troll. Ignore him and don't visit his blog.

Wow. When I said that people shouldn't read something if it upsets them that bad, I never guessed that a sportswriter would actually upset someone so bad for disagreeing with them that they'd do it. But if you're that fragile, I fully support your cause of not reading other people's opinions.

    • Either way there's some tough teams on the schedule this year, on paper anyways.
    • Same. I would prefer a MNF game earlier in the season. As if more likely has some significance in case things go south this season. If we perform well enough we could even get another game forced to a Sunday night spot later in the season.
    • Wanted to jump into this thread. Although I do not post anymore I do look in as there are a few old friends around. Loved hearing some of the names you mentioned.  Another  oldie is NanceUSMC.  He is the one who got me here from the old Observer forum.  Good guy and smart football guy. I have learned a lot from a lot of good Huddlers over the years, Over time. we have sadly lost a few who left this earth too soon.  Anyone who know of someone, it would be nice to try to make a list.  One of the more recent, CosmoGirl,  was someone that kind of hit hard.  Life sucks sometimes. Some of the best times were when we had our own tailgate and could meet up in person.  I think it made us better. Several dedicated volunteers, lead by LiverMush, started setting things up in the wee hours of each gameday morning.  Don't know all those regulars but I remember JakeFlake was one.  For you newbies...each game,  a Huddler (or a group) sponsored the food for each tailgate.  Eating was free but a donation was asked for.  At the end of the year those donations were used to buy bicycles for Toys for Tots.  Over the years Huddlers bought a lot of new bikes for kids for Christmas.  (I am guessing a couple of hundred each year.)  We had a good time getting together, got to make friends in person, and then got to feel like you were doing something good. It was truly a community. I got to meet Dan Morgan at one of our tailgates...he brought pizza from his restaurant.  How many of you remember that?  Glad the restaurant did not make it....lol. Not only have people changed, and come and gone.....but the entire nature and purpose has changed. Nothing lasts forever and we move on but we still like to think about good times. Same reason we take pictures. Want to ask a question I have not seen anyone else mention......who remembers    "The Couch" ?  We have argued, laughed, lived the ups and downs of football and dealt with a little real life along the way.  A thanks to  the Mods who keep this going.  I am sure they sacrifice a lot of their time out of love for the forum and the Panthers. Take care my friends and be well.  I will close with my new favorite quote which I think is greatly needed in these difficult times.
