Any thoughts on a trade like this happening since we signed KK long term and drafting Butler 1st rd

Star plays a different position than Short and Butler. We label them all as DTs, but the three technique and nose tackle are quite different positions. Just like MLB vs. OLB and FS vs. SS and RT vs. LT.

If we dealt Star, Kyle Love becomes your starting NT. We'd be wasting one of our best defensive players by playing him out of position putting Short at the nose and honestly, I don't think either he or Butler could hold it down at that spot anyway. The NT does track up the flashy stats, but that dude has to do WORK.

i am so sick of people pushing the fake clickbait story about the Panthers trading with the 49ers. 10 minutes of research showed me that anyone who pushes that is full of complete and utter poo

It's a harmless hypothetical article. Even the writer knows these scenarios won't play out. Some people enjoy "click bait" articles when the rumor mill is slow during the day

    • Bryce and Dave will determine how many games this team wins next year. It’s not on the WRs. The RBs. LBs. This is about 2 things: 1. Can Bryce continue to come up big in the few key downs that decide most games?  2. Can Canales evolve his play calling to counter punch like the big boys do. Half time adjustments.  teams that score 30+ points on the regular win more games than not. That’s on Bryce and Dave. The offense is top 10 at every position group, save for TE and QB. A baller TE is gravy but not crucial when the receivers are dudes.  The defense is the defense. It’ll be better this season, hopefully by a large margin, but Dave/Bryce is really where it’s at.
    • Normally I'd wholeheartedly agree with this. But I feel like teams figured out this offense after the Raiders game. Bryce was so inept the first 2 games that we couldn't really even run the offense. Dalton's first game showed what we had. But after that game, coverages got a lot tighter and windows were smaller. When Bryce came back in, his ability to extend plays made a big difference. It's really difficult to stop a QB that can beat/escape 1on1 tacklers. It puts a lot of pressure on the defense when you blitz. And he was completing throws in tight coverage with anticipation. Point being Bryce wasn't throwing to wide open receivers that were schemed open by the offense. Occasionally yes. But not often.
    • With the additions we've made to our roster combined with the state of the division and the conference as a whole there is no excuse for this team not to make a legitimate push for 8-9 wins. Anything less is honestly inexcusable. There will be no more free passes for being a doormat in this iteration of the league where even mediocre teams are competing for playoff spots.
