Trading up in round 2

If Cam Robinson is still available at pick #40, you take him.  Yes, even over Melifonwu.

At 55ish?  This is a total homer pick, but if you want fresh DE talent with speed and strength off the edge, take Carl Lawson from Auburn.  He's violent and accomplished with a store of pass-rushing moves already, ready-made to rush the passer in the NFL.  He would need to work hard to develop the ability to set the edge on rush plays in the NFL though (maybe put a few more pounds on his 261 lb frame).  He had an injury history too in college, but he's been healthy and strong for a while now.

I don't know why but I'm not a Shaheen fan. At his size being not so good as a blocker worries me. I loved Kittle and Sprinkle at the combine and I'd rather grab a WR and a S/DE.

Blocking isn't had to.learn it just a willingness to be good at it. Olsen wasn't a great blocker before he came here. At his size he should end up being a big mismatch and good blocker.

I've been going back and forth on this. I think too much needs to be given to take 33 from GB, which would have to be to keep Cam Robinson from Seattle I'd imagine.

35 would be slightly more reasonable to move to, but still just a bit much.

I think we could really be looking at a trade up to 41 right after, depending on which players are there that we could jump the Saints (42) for.

Yea the Saints fuged all over Seattle in the last pick. It's Cam or nothing for them.

Robinson is extreme value at 40. Still he want make it past Sea.

I think DG will move up slightly in the 2nd and grab Another playmaker for the offense. My pick would be Zay Jones

What I'd love to see is our 2nd round pick (#40) and our compensatory 3rd round pick (#98) (total value 608) to the Packers for the first pick in the 2nd round (#33) and the Packer's 5th round pick (#172) (total value 602.2) so that we can pick Cam Robinson.

That would still leave us with our other 2nd round pick (#64), 4th round pick (#115), two 5th round picks (#152 and #172), and a 6th round pick (#192).

Then we could pack up the 4th rounder and the two 5th rounders (116.2 value) to see if anyone would bite to let us move back into the 3rd round (say NE, MIA, or PHI at #96 (116 value), #97 (112), and #99(104)).

Do all this like Madden GM tiger7_88 is recommending, and we still get four players out of the top 100 (#8, #33, #64, #96) plus a choice in the 6th round.

Equals awesome draft.

Do it now, DG.  :P

What you're proposing sounds too good on paper to ever actually happen. If G-Man pulled off this scenario (or something close to it) we'd all be giddy.

Probably, but in each case the team being traded with really isn't moving down a lot (in GB's case, moving down 7 picks and sacrificing a low 5th and in the other case, moving from the very bottom of the 3rd to near the top of the 4th and picking up two 5th rounders in the bargain).

So, yeah, kind of an "ideal world" set of circumstances I set up, but not totally unrealistic either.

Oh, and I've read rumor, since GB now needs a running back, that GB is targeting Mixon.

Here's betting that they could still get Mixon at pick #40 rather than having to use pick #33 to get him.  If they think that's realistic, then why not trade down to #40 and pick up an extra 3rd round pick?

Some of the boards seem to be saying that Seattle is targeting Robinson. That makes sense. We all know how bad their O-Line is. But with the current Sherman situation and the Earl Thomas injury they could be looking at CB or S.
I think we're going to select a RT, WR, or DB. I wouldn't be upset with any of those picks. I just don't want to see a LB or DT picked in the 2nd round.

And obi melifonwu fits their secondary mold to a tee

    • No one way to do it, it does appear that with the bigger draft picks of the last 5 years…..majority haven’t steered clear of young QBs on the roster being their hopeful guy. Especially past their rookie seasons but even some the biggest ones have had it early.   As far as Andy Dalton, the two young guys he has “mentored”…..have had very rough NFL starts.  Which really ask the why the heck is Dalton here.   He doesn’t really check any box.  No young potential.  Can’t step in and win.  And his mentor track record with Fields and now Bryce is bad
    • I had thought the Panthers might let him play out his contract this year and hope he stays healthy. If not draft a left tackle and move Ekwonu to right tackle.
    • Frankly, if most teams in the NFL lose their starting QB for a significant amount of time, they're screwed. The fantasy is that one has a future Tony Romo or a Nick Foles that can carry a stacked team. The reality is that you might get roughly 3~5 games out of your backup before it all falls apart. Remember all of Peyton Manning's backups? Utterly terrible. Speaking of backup QB's, Raiders may need one. https://www.nfl.com/news/raiders-qb-aidan-o-connell-suffered-fractured-wrist-in-preseason-finale-expected-to-be-out-6-8-weeks
