Roster "UNOFFICIALLY" at 91 players... who gets cut?

Our 5 UDFAs don't have to be signed until the end of the week, so there's still a bit of wiggle room before we have to find space on the roster for them.

After the draft Panthers had 87 on the roster.

CB Taylor Patmon just got cut today, so now we're down to 86.... but with 5 pending UDFAs to be added that would push us to 91.

What fat would you all cut?

Here's the current roster for your viewing pleasure, sorted by position.  (It still shows Patmon as I grabbed the roster data before his cut was announced).

I'd guess that with 10 OTs on the roster, 1 or 2 of them will be cut to make room for some players from other positions...  We're fairly "thin" at LB and DT in terms of young guys / candidates for our PS.  Also, we've not yet brought in any new competition at TE unless you count our "do everything" new fullback Armah.

But seriously, apart from a few of the  former PS guys, and the reserve/future "camp body" signings I know little about (some of the tackles, WRs primarily) I'm very impressed with the depth & quality of this roster for this point in the season.  Imagine how hard it is going to be to cut down to 53....

I'd be all for letting Teddy Williams go.  We've added lots of speed...   Not sure it will happen *this* week, but I sure hope he's replaced by a better player.  SOOOOO many penalties (though fewer in 2016 than 2015 because he played so much less...)

Darrel Young - he's 30 and hasn't played in a year.

Not yet.  Too early to think of cutting him. Want him in the FB competition with Armah & Rockhead.  Neither of them have played a snap of NFL football.  Young has.  Give the new guys a chance to learn the ropes with someone who knows a thing or two about playing FB.

Fun that we have 3 guys competing at the position.  We know Jeremy will be loving it!

I think Armagh will win the job handily, but agree gotta keep Young around. Bet we give up on Rockhead pretty soon into TC or even before.

Blechen is a LB.

He was listed as a LB in May 2016, but is now listed on the Panthers roster as a safety.

Similarly, Travelle Dixon was listed as a CB in May 2016, but is now listed as a safety.

Can anyone refresh my memory of whether we asked these guys to switch positions last year?  Or are these designations errors?  Or an attempt to boost our safety depth this offseason??

Update:  As best I can tell, all of last season Blechen was listed as a LB (as I remembered).  But since being signed to a reserve-futures contract in January, he's been listed as safety, and also his number was changed from 50 to 45.

    • They were giving those PFF analytics a priority...
    • I think they have totally tied themselves to BY9. Good luck with that.  If Dan can get that defense really stout he may be able to survive an offensive overhaul.
    • I think a couple of these will turn out better than a quick first impression might indicate.  Specifically the GB guy. I mean, that team and organization is depleted of talent and kind of headed towards the bottom. But I think the dud has some skills.  Head coach in college, with NFL cred too. Tough situation he is taking on.    And I hate to say, Atlanta.  Stefanski might be unleashed lol. Still has a QB deficit though. He’ll get a ton of owner support I think. Blank badly wants Matt Ryan to succeed.    I was cold on Tennessee but they are requiring Saleh to hire an experienced OC and they have some pieces on defense. It might be a little better than I expected at first. Won’t be great anytime soon though.     Harbaugh is proven and a lot of the NFC East is pretty shaky.    I think Baltimore could have fuged up. They apparently are allowing their QB to rule the roost and that ia really a suspect strategy.  OTOH that QB is very potent on the field and could make a mediocre coach look decent.     I am close to there on Buffalo, as far as did they fug up. I am not real optimistic for them, but could be totally wrong.    Pittsburg is the most interesting because of their incredible hiring success. One of these times it ain’t gonna work out so smooth for them. I mean they are kind of due. Will it be this time?     Arizona? Graveyard.  Las Vegas? Probably the same thing. But they might resurrect NE mojo in the desert. I guess it could happen.
