Is this the best front 7 rotation the Panthers have ever had?

Perhaps the best....my only apprehension is Luke Kuechly.

I would have liked to see the Panthers let him come back for the final game and play a little football.

One more concussion and he seriously needs to consider retirement.

I really, really hate reading this. I also really, really hate that I can't argue with the reasoning behind it.

This isn't true.   He was great against the run and still brought pressure.  Sacks aren't all there are to measuring someone.   He was a top 5/10 DE in 2013.   Hardy was mostly a complete player at that position and almost had Peppers athleticism.   He had some dumb decisions in the WORST possible year with the Rice thing and it sunk him.   Also crazy.

Was gonna post the same. He impacted almost every play. Can't get 3-5 sacks every game. The only thing I disagree with you on is he was the top 1 DE that year, not comparing him to 3-4 players.

Don't worry, OP.  3rd or 4th best is still pretty good. I'd have to go with 96 and 03 for sure.

The current defense is just...kinda old. Who knows when the wheels could fall off of any of our front seven not named Star, KK or Shaq.

This front seven certainly has more name recognition across the board.

02-03 was pretty damn good too.

Peppers,Jenkins,Buckner, Rucker. With Al Wallace rotating in as well.

Jenkins was arguably the best DT in the game and Peppers was entering his 2nd year.

Dan Morgan and Will Witherspoon were playing damn good back then as well. In 02 we had Mark Fields, in 03 Greg Favors came in.

But before concussions got to him Morgan was right up there with Urlacher in terms of best MLB's.

In 02 we had 54 team sacks.

96 We employed a 3-4 but that may have been the best fromt 7 we ever fielded. Team produced 60 sacks that year.

The big names were Kevin Greene and Lamar Lathon (salt and pepper). They were what Von Miller and Demarcus ware were in 2015. Deadly combo of outside rushers. Then you had Sam Mills on the inside and Carlton Bailey as the other inside backer?

The D-line I don't remember much in terms of performance but the names were

NT- Kragen

DE- Fox and Gerald Williams.

Will Witherspoon was on that Super Bowl team from 2003. Current LBs really aren't that much better if at all. A healthy Dan Morgan was a tackling machine and Witherspoon was a beast - very TD like. That front 4 absolutely dominated games!

I hated when Spoon left. I think our current LB corp is better, but that one in 02-03 was pretty nasty. Morgan was a machine when healthy.

He was as crazy as Kevin Greene but that Athleticism though... Yeah almost as good as Pepp. Oh and one thing him and Greene had in common, he brought his lunch pale every play.

LDE: Julius Peppers - 1st round pick / Charles Johnson - 3rd round pick

DT: Kawan Short - 2nd round pick / Vernon Butler - 1st round pick

DT: Star Lotulelei - 1st round pick / Vernon Butler - 1st round pick

RDE: Mario Addison / Daeshon Hall - 3rd round pick / Wes Horton

OLB: Thomas Davis - 1st round pick

MLB: Luke Kuechly - 1st round pick

OLB: Shaq Thompson - 1st round pick

No, just no. 4th or 5th if all goes well. Not nearly enough outside rush for me to even feel good about them.

    • Biiiiiig eyeroll on this.  First, Look at historical stats of the most recent historical great DBs.  I plucked 3, Revis, Sherman, and Norman (cuzz he was our guy).  Combined post age 30, there are TWO pro bowls between those 3 and wanna get this...ZERO seasons with 16 games started.  ALL missed time.  It is RARE that Corners survive that long in the NFL and its about time we started recognizing this fact.  Jaycee is a good bet because it hasnt been anything seriously devastating injury wise, and with his sample size he could and should be an incredible piece for the panthers through age 30. Jaire kinda flops on the other side, hes 28...so hes under 30, but he wants his payday before it comes up, hes also been injury prone lately.  Bulk of the contract will be on opposite side of 30.  Will both of these guys help us be better in 2026?  SURE!  No doubt, but the question is, will these guys help us past 2026...not sure. The investment isnt worth the risk, nor would the ROI be anywhere close to worth it.  Neither guy is moving us from a 6-8 win team to a 8-10 team, period. My point is we're in this state a 6-8 win team IMO and he projects us as  a 4-6 win team.  EVEN if we think Jaire or Ramsey will make us a 6-8 win team, it in NO WAY is worth the money or capital to move that much just to suck kinda less.
    • I assumed he was retiring but apparently he plans on playing multiple more seasons.  Florida is gonna have trouble holding onto everyone.  Happens to all teams that have that much success.
    • I hate Marchand, but if he became a free agent.....
