What would you offer TD and Olsen?

I know everyone's concerned that Hurney is going to make TD the league's first 25 million/year linebacker, but forget about that for a minute.

TD signed a 2 year, $18,000,000 contract with $10,000,000 guaranteed two years ago, and this is the second and last year of the contract.  He's still playing at a high level at 34, but maybe doesn't have the speed he did two years ago. Still, he brings a lot in terms of leadership and there aren't many players I would rather have when I absolutely need a play made from his position.

Don't need to say much about Olsen's value.  At 32, he's still a big part of our offense and it's not unusual for a Tight End to be effective until his mid '30s.  Two years ago, he got a 3 year, $22,500,000 contract with $12,000,000 guaranteed.  His cap hit this year is $10,350,000, and $9,750,000 next year.  He wants to be paid like a top 3 TE, which would put him in the same territory as Jimmy Graham ($10,000,000/year $20,900,000 guaranteed) and Travis Kelce ($9,368,400/year $20,007,000 guaranteed).

What would you give each?  It would be fun to arrive at a consensus before Hurney breaks the bank on either of them.

Id let TD play out the season and walk. Hes going to be 35 and looked slow last season. First round Shaq Thompson needs his playingtime and leadership role.

Olsen, Id give him an  3 year extension that knocks out the last two years of his his current deal. Top 5 TE money.

We need Olsen. Dont need TD. Money can and should be spent elsewhere to help keep a young stud.

Edit:  extending TD to anything more than a backup contract is a straight up heart grab and feel good story.

This. TD slowed down tremendously last season.

i don't care about his one last hoorah to handicap this team for the future. Been there seen that.

I agree with @The Huddler I love TD, but his time is almost done.  I would have considered a 1 year extension beyond this season, but that's it.  He can and should retire gracefully as a team icon, unless he's willing to play for a drastically reduced paycheck.

You don't pay for past performance in the NFL, not if you want to win.

Olsen, yes, top TE money for 3-4 more years, I'm fine with that.

Totally agree.

Especially since we have a backup for TD waiting in the wings.  A good one as best we can tell based on play to-date.

But Greg, we ain't got no backup, so pay the man.

Hope we can honor these two great guys - WPMOY winner & finalist - and yet somehow not break the bank.  I had confidence G'man would find a way to do it.  JR & Hurney?  Not so much.

I'd want a GM that makes Olsen reasonably happy and Davis annoyed.

We don't need to give Davis a thank you deal.  Davis was treated very well when times were rough and most teams wouldn't have.

Davis: Play out the deal and walk, if he after he tested the market is ready to come back for backup money, sure. He does not play a premium position and next guy up is at least a solid starter on a rookie deal.

Olsen: If he wants to extend on around his current rate, do it (and make one more year than current deal guaranteed to make it mean something).

    • What I love and hate about this team is it’s more filled with potential breakout players than ever before. JT, XL, Coker, Smith-Wade, Ikem, Trevin… and even Bryce are all guys I could legitimately see taking the next step. But the problem with having so many of those guys is that team success somewhat relies on them taking that step, and some are bound not to. That being said, I’m cautiously optimistic given our softer schedule, the way the offense clicked late last year, and the direction we finally have at GM, coach, and QB. Could see us as a sneaky playoff team.
    • Me, signing up for FanDuel Network, and then canceling FanDuel Network:
    • Smith-Wade for me. He has the path to some decent hefty snaps in Evero’s scheme. He held his own last year and improved as he continued to get snaps— If he makes some strides, could be a very capable nickel.  I agree with Sanders. Bryce had some trust in him that final Falcons game post crazy head-stand.  Bryce looked for him a lot that final game and made some critical catches to get us the W. Seems he’s put in major work so I’m hopeful about him.  Wallace will have an offseason under his belt. I like him a lot, was higher graded than most remember in his draft (I.e Brugler had him LB3/70 overall) but he isn’t as cerebral of an LB as we’re used to. I think he could thrive if we get D captain/film-junky type next to him— because right now that’s Jewell.  Still a bit cautious but love the talent. Rozeboom may snag some playing time from him if he’s still working out the kinks.
