I shouldn't get involved in a losing battle, but here's a screen shot of Spotrac:
The 2017 Salary Cap for ALL TEAMS was 167 Million. (NFL.com article here:
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000788547/article/nfl-salary-cap-for-2017-season-set-at-167-million )
The Panthers 2017 Salary Cap in 2017 is about 180 million.  WHY?  Because we rolled over the 13 million we did NOT pay Josh Norman in 2016.  If you don't spend your full cap money you get to roll it over.  But if we'd spent that money, it's gone and we would have only 167 million this year.

You are rolling the money over you would have paid to Norman..
Cool..
If you had paid Norman that money for 1 year.. If you choose not to pay Norman the next year you still get that money.. Nothing extra happens because it is a one year deal..

It WENT with Norman.
We pay Norman out and he's gone. What we pay him we CAN'T get back.
Since we didn't pay/keep him we got to keep that money and save it for 2017.
Like really?

Jesus christ..
You don't pay Norman the next year and still get that money to use that next year..

You don't pay Norman 13.95 million dollars the next year if he is signed and playing on a different team...

You pay him for the one year he is on your team.. And The next year you don't but you still have that money because it's not going to Norman ...
So while you allocated 13.95 to go to Norman in 2016.. You don't have to give him 13.95 in 2017 because he isn't on your team anymore.. You can allocate it differently in 2017 because the tag is only paid 1 year and you get to pick a different home for that money now..

Because we used the money in 2016 doesn't mean we can't use it differently in 2017..

I'm going to ask you this question again..

If you paid Norman the tag money 2016.. He plays that year for you..
When the fiscial year starts 2017 you choose to let Norman walk .. Where do you think the Norman money goes in 2017??

I'm sorry some of you don't understand that you are rolling over money you would have had anyway when you let Norman walk the next year..

We lost a lot by allowing him to walk for nothing last year. If in fact the money was rolled over, the money being rolled over was not worth it.

Great point..

Dawg.. and reality is all the money you rolled over is money you would have had if you let Norman walk this year..

Instead we get a season of watching our Secondary get tourched.. Our defense go from top 10 passing defense to 26 and another chance to get back to back winning season going down the drain...

Gman was a good GM but he did make some dumb moves that can't be explained away easily..

that FT was a prove yourself contract. as much as I want to believe in the incompetent agent, it's looks more like a CB benefiting from the DL.

And blame Hurney for drafting Cam and Luke the two anchors to our team.

1. Cam was by far college's best QB. Nearly every scout and draft expert with half a mind would agree. Drafting Cam #1 overall was a no-brainer.

2. Luke Kuechly was a Ron Rivera inspired pick. Thank Rivera for Kuechly, cause he probably wouldn't be a Panther without him.

Cam was as divisive potential #1 draft pick and QB as I've ever seen. He was certainly not a lock under any circumstances. Give Hurney credit for making a difficult choice, and likely having to go that extra mile to persuade J-Rich. Moreover, as much as you want to credit Rivera with the Kuechly pick, the buck stopped with Hurney. He was the person most responsible for the pick. Just give the man the credit he is due for unquestionably the two most important players on our team. Anything else just belies an agenda and is weak sauce.

    • The team wore down and shots stopped falling.  Ball, Miller and Kon have to play well.  At least 2 of the 3.  2/16…0/6. That ain’t gonna cut it.     If Bridges and White are the only ones hitting from 3, it’s not gonna go well.  The 3’s make Moose and Kalk work.  No 3’s it gets too crowded for them with all the bodies crashing the boards.    (Kalk needs to add strength, something awful tho.)
    • Was at the game and NYCFC honestly outplayed CLT the whole way.  Khalina and Zaha carried the team.  Zaha's wife on IG making it sound like he's gone come July. They're going to have to pay him or find a big time replacement because the team looks like pretty lost without him.
    • No one's saying LaMelo has no blame we're responding to you acting like he's the reason they lost. The scapegoating and blaming the teams woes on his personality is where it's like Cam Newton all over again. It was a failure on multiple fronts and primarily Lee's. Dude said ON AIR pregame that they had to protect the paint and if that was his gameplan going in he couldn't have botched it more. As the commentators said Ball's a rhythm guy and Orlando was preventing him for getting any kind of flow going. I'm a normie watching on TV and said they needed to bait them into fouling to combat that. They didn't even try until the 2nd half when it was too late. I think it's fair to expect the star to overcome whatever but LaMelo was not the problem in that game and he's not what is holding the team back. He's the only reason they're flirting with being a great team. I kinda put the center play on Lee too. Moose is great until he's up against a big who can body him. We've always known that and that's what Kalkbrenner is for. I don't know if it would have changed much but Kalkbrenner should have had more minutes than him.  And moving forward with the center position, I just think it's the time to trade Diabate while his stock's high and that's not an indictment of his game. He's like an evolved combination of Biyombo and PJ. He's a great rim protector and the strength issue is just what you're going to have to deal with if you want that. But Kalkbrenner is perfectly capable of protecting the rim and we gotta get away from the undersized centers or it'll always be a problem for us.
