If we could only improve 1 thing....

our qb is struggling. our run game has disappeared and our play calling is suspect. but i feel our #1 problem is on defense and is poor tackling.

poor tackling wears out a defense by making them play more plays. It of course extends drives for the opponent giving them more chances to score, putting us further behind and more pressure to pass thus affecting play calling. better tackling would help our defense get off the field and give the ball back to the offense giving more opportunities to score as well as improving play calling. it allows us to control the clock and keep the defense rested. its simple math.

the dallas game was a beacon in the fog pointing out how terrible we are at tackling. even the announcers were ripping us apart.

if we could change just one thing, it wouldn't be our coach, QB, or OC, it should be improving our tackling. i think you'd see a huge improvement on BOTH sides of the ball.

(but i still think we should punt jake by season's end.)

if our QB would play better we could keep the ball in our hands for longer and extend drives instead of going three and out 70% of the time and putting the defense out there.

If the line played better and gave Jake the time to throw as well as blocked better for our running backs, our quarterback play would be better and the game wouldn't be constantly put on his shoulders.

well actually he did have time to throw the last two games, and although he faced pressure against the Eagles 5 turnovers in less than 4 quarters is unacceptable. Plus we ran well against the Falcons.

If I had a choice it would have to be constant qb pressure. To me this would snowball to every other problem. Pass rush equals getting off field on third down, confidence which would improve tackling, force turnovers...........etc.

This is a defensive team as we have all been told. This one fix would likely snowball fix the defense. Ill go with that.

Then again.........cant stop run either........

i still don't understand how you build a team to run the ball then abandon it at the hint of trouble.

if carolina needs to improve on anything, it's the number of run plays.

run the ball more and delhomme becomes that much more effective. he's never been a QB that could consistently carry an offense, but put him behind a good rushing attack and he excels.

stewart and williams should be getting between 15-20 carries each. i have yet to see a defense completely shut both these guys down. carolina abandons the run long before it's really been shut down.

running the ball also keeps the defense off the field. sad to say, these guys are on a steep learning curve, and the longer they are on the field the more mistakes they tend to make.

Though I agree we do not run enough or have not to date this year, that to me is a easy fix and will be corrected this year. QB play, dline play, tackling, special teams play arent as simple as changing play calling stratagies.

Think play calling was just Davidson taking shots to turn a game around, or in third quarter of dallas game seal the deal. If jake connects this site is completely different mindset, were praising qb, coaching etc. Im sure this will change eventually regradless.

    • Rico walking is no big deal. I'll take a healthy 2024 Hubbard over Rico any time and losing Mays is, again, no a big deal.  Young is signed for what, $35M for the next two years? Say he wants $50M but the FO doesn't. If they put the franchise tag on him, that would be around $55? So basically they are getting Young for the next 3 years for an average of $30M per year. Putting the franchise tag on him wouldn't be my first choice but it gives them an option that wouldn't be locking him into a long term, $50M contract. I'm not suggestion they do that. Just that the option will be there should they get to that point. Hunt is on a 5 year deal which is done in 28 so he either restructures or is gone anyway. Moton will be 35 by then and will either be gone or have diminished playing time. Neither of those players has anything to do with getting Young a contract. The O line is way overpaid anyway. Hopefully by the time they are gone, Freeling and Hecht will be developed and Ickey will be healthy. Young was benched his second year and only got his job back because Dalton was injured. Not sure how you can call that entitled. And I would NOT say putting a rookie QB on a team with no receivers, tight ends or O lineman and then being put with a coach who never wanted you and is fired mid season, is a definition of luck. As far as competition, no team is going to bring in competition for a QB picked first overall - especially given the capital that was given up to get him.
    • With apologies to Lady Cowboy fan, any day we can screw over the Cowboys is a GOOD day…
    • Been here since 2014ish. Good times. Its a shame Zod wont sell, it wouldnt take that much effort to get this place back into shape.
