Hello, and welcome to the first 2017 installment of What __________ are saying. 

 

Assumptions are being made about the Carolina Panthers offensive line.

"The Panthers o-line is not good. It will be very difficult for Cam to hit the deep ball with their slow receivers (no more Ted Ginn) and behind this porous offensive line."

This is a common sentiment as I scour the interwebs in search of 49ers fans capable of stringing together a coherent sentence (it ain't easy). While I think it is fair to question the Carolina Panthers offensive line, assuming they are not good at this point is a reach.

The Panthers have one of the best interior offensive lines in the NFL. With two new starters at the tackle positions, they very well could have an average offensive line or actually a good offensive line. The last time that happened Cam Newton won league MVP.

 

This 49ers fan thinks he knows the path to victory

"I had a dream. Five minutes into the first quarter, Thomas and Foster meet at the "Cam", Newton is knocked out of the game, Derek Anderson comes in and throws three picks and loses a fumble. At 14 to nothing, we start rotating Brieda and Mostert in, and their speed, vision and cutback ability make our interior linemen look good. Their receiving, along with Kittle and Juszczyk, allows us to coast to a 31 to zero win, with Hyde getting a second half rest."

Making NFL predictions during a mushroom induced hallucination should be avoided. Sure, they make the grain of your floor boards interesting as hell, but they do you no favors here. Now sober up and get working on my coffee order. Soy pumpkin spice latte, extra foam. If my name is spelled wrong on the cup there will be hell to pay.

 

Apparently, even sober 49ers fans think this is going to be a blowout.

Listen, I understand that Kyle Shanahan's offense gave the Carolina Panthers defense fits last year. But the Atlanta Falcons had honest to goodness NFL caliber player. Matt Ryan, Julio Jones, Devonta Freeman. Meanwhile, the 49ers are stuck with Brian Hoyer. A guy that wasn't quite good enough to keep a job with the Cleveland Browns.

 

Next up, the signing of Ben Boulware to the 49ers practice squad is a hot topic.

I understand the enthusiasm. Many Carolina Panthers fans felt the same way. Unfortunately, reality set in rather quickly. While Boulware had the ambition, he just lacked the physical tools to get the job done. It happens to so many great college players. So take it from us, you may want to temper your excitement.

 

49ers fans do like Christian McCaffrey , however. 

Pretty close i would say. He definitely is a different kind, and staying with him will be a challenge. But Reuben's closing speed may be the ticket. I hope McCaff doesn't leave Reuben in the dust. And yes, he is shifty. He's also small and hard to find amongst the behemoths out there. He has to be something special to have made it this far. He weighs less than half of Trenton . Once you see him play you will understand what he is doing starting for Panthers. He is that good.

So they get Carolina kid Boulware and we get Bay Area kid McCaffrey.  I'll take it.

The main thing I took away from there is every Uber driver I had earned 6 figures as a computer programmer and had to Uber to make ends meet.

This is true, which is why I won't go anywhere near there unless I'm on expenses.  A decent hotel room will set you back $250, and you can't get a good breakfast under $20.  I can do better on both in terms of quality in Charlotte for just about half the cost.

You CAN, however, get better Hawaiian shirts there.  I know a place...

      So he became GM and decided not to address the weakness in the QB room following one of the worst rookie QB performances in NFL history?  There were options last season other than signing Dalton to a 2 year deal. Brissett and Jones by a wide margin, both of whom outplayed Bryce, Wilson, Winston, hell even Rivers off the couch was more exciting at the QB position. The time to address the failure in the QB room was last year but instead people on the Huddle cheered when we brought Dalton back then cheered when we were able to get anything for him after they finally realized he was washed up like a few of had been saying all along and got poo'd for even mentioning.  This year, the options were more limited obviously, especially since we lost Icky. It changed the dynamic of our draft. I think we were stuck this year keeping Bryce, but i still think giving him a 5th year option for what has amounted to replacement worthy performance was the wrong move. Why guarantee 25m if you're planning to replace him? You think he's going to want to be a bridge QB? Hell no. He's going to want out and we'll end up cutting him if he has another lackluster season because no one is trading for him with that price tag.  Were there better options as far as production available. A couple. Were there guys available with more physical tools than Bryce, Pickett or Grier, you damn well better believe there were. I've been saying all along, you always keep looking for your 1b. Bryce has yet to prove he can be a starter. Keep looking for someone who may. Put competition in camp. Let the best QB lead the team. Stop settling for less than mediocre.

      Reasonable. I mean I didn’t see a clear path to relief this season myself. As I have typed already, I think the QB FA class is more interesting next season and that draft is supposed to be stacked as well. There just weren’t many options this year.  When you have Tepper to contend with you have to tread lightly around this unless you are 100% certain and willIng to stake your job on it.   There were a couple of outings that helped Bryce a lot in terms of  thinking maybe he can do this, and if you are a supporter you are giving them a lot of weight. You are likely to think just get him some more help and he can do that every week. Which I think Tepper falls into that category.  And the playoffs, division champs, regardless of the way I see that, the supporters will also give that a lot of weight.    And the big one, the atmosphere In BOA for that WC game, Tepper had to be soiling himself over that. If you pulled Bryce out right now you had better be right and your new guy had better make the playoffs and look good doing it or you will be gone and your chance to build your old team back into respectability will be gone too.  So here we have Pickett on a one year deal, and Grier and King. I understand it.
