Buying tickets at the game

What's people's experience with buying tickets from scalpers at the game? I haven't done it in years. My ticket source sold this week's game to someone else. It's the first home opener I will possibly miss in at least 5 years. I really want to go, but I am hearing a lot of horror stories about people buying fake tickets. A good friend of mine went to tailgate for the National Championship game and bought his son a ticket for $1000. It was fake! He lost that money. I also don't want to pay a crazy amount of money for them. If you needed tickets would you just buy of the internet, or go to the game to find some? Also if anyone knows someone selling please let me know. Thanks!

I've scalped tickets before games over a dozen times and never had any issue. In fact I usually end up with lower level seats at or below face value, including the last regular season game against Tampa in 2015. Snagged wheel chair lower level for way under face value. It's my preferred way to buy tickets if I'm just looking for one or two.

The trick is to wait until the game is just about to start. Guys will be desperate to unload their unsold tickets right outside the stadium.

I would make sure the tickets are hard copies and not printed from a website, and if you get a sketchy feeling about the person maybe try someone else. If you want to be real sure about it, take a pic of the seller's ID.

Good luck.

also, huge games like the National Championship and Super Bowl are going to have hundreds of thousands of more fake tickets than your typical Carolina Panthers game

When I go to Panthers games I only scalp if they're not playing the Bills. Because if I don't get in or get bad seats I don't care. But they're almost always under face value near kickoff. A few times I just sat near a guy selling them until kickoff. Followed him back toward his car and started yelling if anyone had tickets. He gave them dirt cheap.

I used to do it all the time, until I started valuing tailgate time more than the extra cash I paid to get them through NFL ticket exchange ahead of time. It sucks having to think about getting your tickets while you're drinking.

you can get some pretty good deals if you wait til last minute though

    • I'm not a Bryce hater and I would 100% move on.  Especially looking at how the upcoming qb draft looks on paper.  Hopefully he continues to improve but if in 3 seasons you're still chasing average season numbers then he's not going to be the guy.  You've just got to keep taking swings until you hit.  Average qbs without any elite physical traits cant get it done anymore.  So this year Hopefully he continues to develop and is above average statistically.
    • Meltdowns???? He was pulled by Canales because he wasn't executing the game plan after 2 games into the season so he could watch Dalton execute the offense and show Bryce the windows available in the NFL, how to push the ball down the field and how to step up and move around when blitzed. When Young came back 5 games later he clearly watched and improved. Enough he was named the future starter. He doesn't have a history of  meltdowns nor is there any reason to assume he will have one. From what I have read he is mentally strong and emotional stable. He may have bad games down the road, everyone does. But this is all a learning experience for him and so far he seems to be making progress. I can understand being hesitant on anything Panthers, but Young has surprisingly been able to gain his confidence after a disastrous start. You aren't alone in being cautious but I think he is the future. I thought he was too small and too short to succeed in the NFL. Honestly I was pleasantly surprised last year and am optimistic about the offense for the first time since Wilks and Dalton were decent.
    • The Rams wanted to trade up for Williams who they ended up within the end. They even told him that when they called him to let him know he is the pick. The other teams are only an assumption. Like the Cowboys, who took a guard. The truth is the team wanted to trade down first and foremost but couldn't get an offer the were happy with. They took McMillan because they felt he was bpa at 8 plain and simple.
