Possible testing for CTE on living patients may be coming

Honestly, if it does show serious damage... then its probably going to lead to the end of football as we know it.  And it probably should.  And this is coming from a coach.

There's already plenty of evidence confirming what we pretty much already knew.

91 former NFL players have been tested. 87 of them had CTE.

While most will concentrate on the NFL, the impact could be even greater at the youth sports level. Imagine testing your 14 year old and finding they have the early stages of CTE. That would be fantastic for the player and the parents to know (but also the end of that 14 year olds playing career).

I'm not sure football could survive a test showing high schoolers getting CTE. And if it did, it should not survive. MMA might survive. Not sure. Looks like it's the NBA's turn at dominance soon.

It's already started here at the middle school level.  There are so many concussion wavers that the parents have to sign now and it started this year.  I even had to sign one for my son to play high school soccer.  It's just a matter of time before the dominos start to fall.  Now with politics oozing in it may get accelerated.

"As such, many of the players who have donated their brains for testing suspected that they had the disease while still alive, leaving researchers with a skewed population to work with."

Of course the results are skewed, but I don't think you have to be a neurologist to come to the conclusion that taking repeated blows to the head probably isn't the best thing in the world for your health.

The more we learn about CTE and brain injuries in the general, the worse it looks.

I honestly think the days are numbered for football as we know it, MMA, boxing, hockey, etc. Would not be surprised at all if the game looks much different five years from now and it wouldn't shock me if there isn't a push in the coming years for a ban on combat sports.
