Greg Olsen Says We Need To Be More Efficient Passing Team

Apparently we have thrown for a league low 1033 passing yards in the last 6 games. Cam has completed only 54.1% of his passes over the last 6 games compared to completing 64.8% of his passes over his first 7 games of the season.

Theres alot of other stats in the article but I thought these were the most striking. I dont think its a coincidence that these poor passing stats seem to coincide with the timing when our running game starting coming alive in the 2nd half of the season . I cant help but think tho, what happens if we have a bad day rushing and Funchess isn't open?

I'd say whats frustrated me the most this season in terms of a passing game, is that we have had absolutely 0 success throwing and completing passing 20+ yards down the field. We have no deep threat, every time Cam throws a deep bomb there's no Panther anywhere near the ball and usually a group of defenders are just waiting on it. We're clearly lacking explosive pass plays down the field that we had the last 2 years with Ginn and I think thats going to eventually be our downfall in the playoffs. Some team is going to just axe our run game and force us to make plays way down the field which we cant.

We've had more team rushing yards than team passing yards in three of our last six games.

Granted, those were all 200-yard games but there was one game (New York) where we had 154 passing and 145 rushing.

Also a lot of this rushing is coming from Cam. He's averaging around 60 yards a game the last five or six games.

And I dont think that's sustainable all the way through the playoffs and SB if we're lucky. Were going to eventually run into a team the stops all the runs and we'll just have to throw well down the field to open up the running lanes again.

Even against a Philly team that completely shut down the run, the Eagles still needed two turnovers in the Panthers end, plus CMC being a half yard short on 4th down to win.

To elaborate, the final 4th down pass was caught by CMC a half yard short of the line to gain. If he makes it, the drive continues and anything could happen at that point.

Wed throw for more yards if we were losing

Always act like you're playing from behind and there's less than 2 minutes on the clock.

I think if we did that, we wouldn't have to worry about losing leads we were trying to protect.

    • You’re playing madden we’re talking real football stuff…. He does have you seen his special on internet he def thinks he’s getting paid
    • Without the team having an identity kinda hard to predict what they value.  They either are really trying to build a balanced team, or preparing for another swing at qb if Bryce doesn’t pan out. Seems like we value the o line but the $ spent there has been underwhelming besides Lewis, you could say it’s because of injuries but still hasn’t been worth the investment. as already stated, the whole handling of Bryce young as a whole has been ass backwards, we spent the years we’re supposed to take advantage of having a qb with a lower cap hit, building the team up to be adequate. now It appears, key word appears, the saints have done it correctly, which is painful to even think about. Regardless, I hope the front office has paid attention to qb contracts recently, such as Tua, Kyler, Daniel jones(pre colts) and don’t settle for subpar qb play at franchise qb rates
    • This is the flaw in your logic.  Cutting 3 of our best players will somehow move us from whatever we are to "compete". Even the most Young super fans are not predicting a ceiling above top 10-12, and that will not nearly cut it.  Someone will need to break the log jam of QBs getting nothing or North of 50. Our qb is at best a middle ground, lets hope it will be us that also manage to pay the worth at about 100 over 3 years.  And before you jump me, yes that is only of he improves.
