My pick for new Carolina Panthers owner

Jeremy Igo

My pick for the Carolina Panthers recently opened majority ownership position:

Current Carolina Panthers minority share holder Tim Belk

Relatively young (60) local guy. Would never move the team. Family has strong ties to the Carolinas.

Already has the Belk Bowl at Bank of America Stadium. Obviously loves football.

Recently retired from Belk. Plenty of free time.

Family is worth billions.

All the talk about Sean Combs or other celebrities completely misses this one important thing. Having millions is not going to do it. It's going to take a billion to even get into the real bidding.

And with Belk, he already owns a minority share, adding in JR's percentage would make him a very strong majority holder.

That is true but celebrities/athletes could easily go the Jeter route.

They would probably increase his share to 49% and bring in a new minority owner to make up the difference.

So Tim Belk would have to buy Jerrys full 47 percent or does just needs to own a larger percentage than everyone else?

Jeter has no real say on what goes on with the Marlins.  They just got his face out there.  The real owners are behind the scenes.

Yeah, they got a good deal there.  They have Jeter as the face and he gets blamed for everything.

...and the fans are going in on him right now heehee!!!  Trading away all their good hitters.  If they are not now, they will be the Cleveland Browns of Baseball next year.

He would need to increase his share to become a majority owner.  I'm assuming Richardson's kids and wife aren't going to sell their minority shares and that no other owner will sell their share either.

Yes, it is sad.  It would be one thing if they were getting good deals.  They did not get enough for Ozuna but at least they got something.  Basically gave Stanton and Gordon away.

It is far more complicated, of course, than just increasing a minority share.  Richardson's share of the team is held as a partnership which contains many incorporated entities within the partnership.  The two main incorporated entities are Richardson's LLC which owns the majority share and the second LLC which is made up of the several individuals owning minority shares in different proportions.  Levine appears to be the largest minority owner within the minority LLC.  The Belk family appears to be the third or fourth in terms of size of minority owners, owning about 5% of the franchise.

    • in starts, he has played better, been more efficient and outproduced Bryce by virtually every statistical metric that exists in 2025.  And has the 2 head to heads over Carolina.  I mean, your jaw should hit the floor.  But not for the reason you are implying.  That freaking stings.  Denying these realities isn't going to help the Panthers build a better team going forward.
    • He is basically having a polar opposite rookie season than Bryce. 4-3 as a starter on a very bad team.  68% for 237 passing yards and 19 rush per game. 9 TDs,  6 TOs in his starts.  and folks acknowledge the surprisingly play because no one thought poo of the random 2nd rounder and he is player better as a rookie thus far than so many prized picks did as a rookies (not just Bryce but a boatload of dudes).   It's only a sour issue to give someone props because he is a Saint and of course the Bryce thing.  It's like giving the TE in Clev props for having near identical production as the chosen one Tyler Warren.  Fannin is having a great rookie season in a very bad spot.
    • This is a very weird take. The reason Shough doesn't deserve it is because he's only started 7 games. He's doing crazy well for a rookie and out playing plenty of vets with a worse roster. He's waaay above league average in a number of categories during his starts and he passes the eye test in game by making plays. Meanwhile Bryce Young had one of the worst rookie seasons of all time. Still TMac deserves it more. It's only been 7 games for Shough so he doesn't deserve any awards. Even if he gets to 9 he doesn't.
