Hope I'm Wrong, But We Look Like a One and Done Team.

With Samuel and Byrd this is a better team.  Without them, there is no one to make plays.  The reasons we traded KB are now on IR.   So basically unless Cam runs for 300 yards and we get a defensive score, we have no chance to keep up with a team like New Orleans in the dome.

We're not, Falcons just matchup extremely well because their LBs can consistently cover our TEs and HBs and we have one capable WR, our QB playing ???? and an OC who makes no adjustments

That said we can't do this in the playoffs.

all good points.  I hope you're right, but man, this happens too often.  The offense has been bogged down against defenses with a lot less speed and talent this season far too often for me to give Atlanta credit for what just happened.

But, if i wanted to be optimistic, i could say we could win any given day depending on who executes better, as evidenced by the Taints losing to Tampa with just as much at stake today.

We'll see what happens, but this offense and staff is hard to have confidence in, and they just never seem to be able to adjust.

You realize that most of the Gettleman threads weren't made by "Gettleman worshipers", right?

TheCableGuy is as painfully obvious an alt as that NeedsumD poster that keeps shitting up the forum bashing Cam Newton.

I'm referring to the hourly update threads celebrating his new position with the Giants.

Yeah, i know it's ad hoc, but the issue is, it should've never been like this.  You can't predict injuries, but you can prepare for them with depth and we consistently spitball the offensive "weapons" around Cam with UDFAs and bargain bin signings and then we always end up here.  We need more than what we had, even when healthy, but i agree, Samuel and Byrd would open things up a lot more.  This offense is just hard to watch with what we have left.

That's true, but we also are a run first team and haha our Run game was dead today, in part to miscues and in part to Aimini making Geady Jarrett look like an all pro. I'd be much more concerned with Aimini starting against NO.

I'm more worried about our secondary but they've been actually...preforming? Lately.  Not great but we can win with that.

It's a coin toss what'll happen, we can win just as easily as we can lose any of these playoff games coming up.  Today was a bad game on offense, but that isn't what we are.

Well for whatever reason Gettleman never thought he should sign a proven receiver.  He got lucky with Ginn, but otherwise totally neglected this position. When he did address it it was too late as Cam wasted two years of getting killed with terrible options to throw to.

But, Ginn is a prime example of what's wrong with our approach to weapons...  He was productive here.  Realistically, he was our #1 WR, and we let him walk to a division opponent where he is like what?  Their 3rd or 4th option?  That is inexcusable.

And yes, i think they are actively shortening Cam's career by not addressing his weapons and protection appropriately since he's been here.  I know everyone wants to treat the organization's money like it's their own, but i think investing in proven receivers is what will set us apart (if we do it while Cam is here).

Giants had OBJ, Brandon Marshall and Sterling Sheppard as their 1-3. After injury their one and two were Sheppard and King.

Ravens signed Maclin and drafted Perriman a few years back. Look at who's catching passes for them today. And this is a win and in game for them.

The problem with us is our situation is already questionable at WR, and to add to that our potential talent gets hurt.

Jesus, they didn't even have to double Olsen and spy Cam, just let Cam throw or hand off to CAP and you're safe.

Yeah this.

This was such a bad game all around on offense it's hard to say it's just the WRs

The offense is this bad, as a whole, against the Saints no doubt we'll lose. But there's no chance they're this bad.

    • And this reiterates why I don’t want a Young contract extension. Please let us find another QB.
    • Oh, the high expectations after a draft. Keep your expectations low, people. Darin Gantt's latest "Ask The Old Guy" gives life to one of those lessons about pro football reality as a fan: "Rasheed Walker was a three-year starter at left tackle for the Packers, so Freeling is going to have to work. Hunter's got another big 'un in front of him in Bobby Brown III and a different kind of defensive tackle in Tershawn Wharton. Chris Brazzell II's got a lot of traffic at his position. Zakee Wheatley has to be better than the chronically underappreciated Nick Scott, and Sam Hecht is a fifth-round rookie at the hardest position on the line to play, who probably doesn't have immediate positional flexibility, and a solid free agent addition in Luke Fortner in front of him. "Fans generally love their draft class as soon as it arrives, because there is no evidence to the contrary yet. Once guys get on the field, the reality begins to creep in, and the seasoned among you remember that if you get three or four good players out of a draft, that was an amazing draft." https://www.panthers.com/news/ask-the-old-guy-things-looking-up-after-the-draft-monroe-freeling-luke-kuechly-bryce-young-derrick-brown Don't get crazy. Winning the draft (or the offseason BTW) on paper always leads to good feelings and great expectations, especially when you seemingly succeeded the season before, but let's remember that the Panthers are very much a work in progress. Team building takes time. If we get a couple of starters out of the draft, it's a good draft, but three or four would be an amazing draft, and anything more than that is actually sensational--even if entails a few multiple high end rotational players along with three starters. Moreover, kind of within that same vein, the coaches have to let the kids off the chain. Remember the coach-speak of past coaches about competition that is anything but because coaches have their notions about veteran experience? Not saying that they're necessarily wrong, but sometimes I think their reluctance to put the young guys out there is based somewhat in dogma or possibly fear because big stakes are on the line (e.g., their jobs). It can be frustrating to say the least, but the coaches are supposed to know best. Again, I say all of this so that we can remember to temper expectations and keep them within the realm of reality. It's like telling your mind to think of it as something akin to under-promising and over-delivering. Leave room to be pleasantly surprised for the best case scenario, but be cognizant that that rarely happens. I would think at this point, most of us should be able to recognize growth when we see it, and sometimes that growth doesn't manifest itself in the form of immediate supremacy, but a setting of the stage for long term dominance for years to come. It seems like we're on track for an emergence by 2028 or 2029. We still have huge questions, but by 2029, hopefully we will take our seat at the table of the perennial contenders in the NFL.
