Still had three months of a healthy Newton to work with.

And even that doesn't explain why we're running what Riddick called "training camp day one" pass routes.

The offense in the past 10 weeks was much improved until the past 2 games. Plus given the constant shuffling of receivers due to injuries, rookies starting and special teams guys now having to play receiver, we said had to go back to the basics. You can't be complex if you have to start over each week with different guys and there are only certain routes your quarterback can consistently throw.

Looks like we can't go basic either...so may as well go down going all out rather than making it that easy for the opponent.

That makes no sense. If you can't do the basics you can't be more complex. You keep working on the basics and execute better. Let's be real here basic or not we had receivers open all day against Atlanta and Cam was god awful. He needs to go back to the basics.

Yes it does, it's easier for the defense to defend basic day 1 poo where they know the plays and were running the routes for our WRs because they know the Panthers. Anyway my post wasn't about simply being complex and was just clowning the pitiful basic showing.

You don't install day 1 offense on the last game of the season and aren't going to have people all the sudden caught up if they aren't already in 1 week of practice. You either have it or not at that point and there are plenty of things they could/should do such as no huddle offense where Cam has done well, 2 TE sets, and use the FB for a change....that's more what I was talking about...if that's too complex then it won't matter regardless the team is doomed.

We are not installing day 1 offensive schemes at this point. We are looking at New Orleans and what plays we have run and other teams have run that were successful. Then we look at our personnel and look for matchups that benefit us against them.  We gameplan 40-50 plays and run those. The complexity isn't the scheme it is the ability of players to work together to adjust on the fly and at the line to recognize defenses and what route they should run based on down, distance and placement of defenders. Setting picks for other players without it looking like a pick. Running 2 tight end sets don't work if the other team put 8 guys in the box and you can't stretch the field to back off the safeties.  And no huddle works when Cam is in rhythmbut when he isn't it a quick 3 and out and giving Brees the ball back.

By no means am I a Shula apologist but I don't think it's fair to pin the offensive struggles soley on him this season. The injuries we've sustained on that side of the ball have been huge.

It’s more the front office fault. Consistent misses and overlooking the right talent in the drafts—

free agents that are garbage— Charles Johnson and Sheppard to come in and replace Ginn? Have fun NY Giants— need some vasoline?

it is our coaching staffs fault for failure to groom and properly utilize talent.

for what I’m talking about... see New England Patriots.

Benjamin got traded,... didn’t need to. Should have just cut Sheppard. Anyone still think we should have traded him now?

CAP has been on the roster for how long and can’t take a handoff, can’t pass block(biggest thing that keeps him off the field), and if Fozzy has declined from injuries that much why is he still here?

why is CMac running up the gut with no fullback? Why is Stewart running up the gut with no fullback?

dickhead Dickson can’t fullback so why isn’t Armah there, olsen Stewart CMac and Funchess. 4 good hands and a lead blocker,.. wow.

In all fairness to Shula, this offense did show life with Samuel and CMC more involved. While you can question Samuel’s hands, his route running and ability to gain separation is something this offense hasn’t seen in a long time. Without him - or anyone that can separate for that matter - Shula can only do so much, and that goes for Cam too.

He has no one to scheme or work with now, but even then he has to adapt and actually be more creative than he has been thus far.

Yeah we've been snake bitten this year in receiver situation  . Seems like both Byrd and Samuel were just starting to take off before they got hurt . Speed and separation are incredibly important , we're missing that from Ginn not being here as well . Add in olsen being out most of the year and Kelvin been traded , the recieving core this year is just as much of a clusterfug as our secondary was in 2016 after the departure of Norman , Tillman, Harper .

Agreed . The only problem was that we had Benji and Funchess on the field at the same time . Make one of them backup the other and put a speed guy in the slot and at least a pretty fast guy with good route running in the slot opposite of Benji/Funchess

We just have dysfunctional staff and office it's going to take awhile for it all to change and start trending in the right direction

And if we look bad again next season?

How long are we supposed to give them to "evolve"?

Do we want to be like the Bengals?

Sometimes evolution does go down a dead-end street. 11-5 with a playoff spot isn't a sign that we're on one of those yet. 5-11 next season and you can definitely make a case for it.

Fair enough?
