The coach that knows Shula the best ..... Just passed on him...

I have to ask, do you think it has more to do with Cam and the coaches thinking he might not be able to adapt to a new system quick enough?   I mean, given the fact that we've basically run the same offense since Rivera and Newton took over, could it be more QB related than we've previously thought?  Either way, Shula sucked and I can't wait to see what we do under Norv.

The moment Shula was hired I warned everyone and said it was a move of continuity, not competency.

Twitter guy is wrong. Daboll has plenty of NFL coaching experience.

McDermott continues his habit of not hiring anybody with Panthers experience.

Maybe McD is pretty smart. I think Ron’s biggest  problem is talent evaluations among coaches and players.

Well that would be a pretty stupid assumption on their part. That didn't seem to be an issue Cam's rookie season. With the lockout and basically no offseason to prepare, he put up historic numbers right out of the gate.

I think Shula sticking around as long as he did had more to do with Ron Rivera's stubbornness/blind loyalty and inability to adapt or consider change more than anything else. He plays it safe to a fault. I mean I'm okay with the Norv Turner hire in general, but we didn't even bother to conduct basic due diligence and interview anyone else did we? That's the Ron Rivera I'm talking about. I like him on a personal level and I wish him no ill will, but he is his own worst enemy and hindering his ability to jump from being an above average head coach to an elite head coach.

Lets not forget that Rivera was also getting on the hot seat.

No OC that would interview that was worth a damn would have came here with a HC on the hot seat and end up being fired again at the end of the year. Plus Ron probably didn’t want a “up and coming” OC that could take his spot if he was fired.

Shula was the safe pick for Ron and it bit him in the ass. That 15-1 season as fun was it was, gave Shula ammo for Ron to not fire him sooner.

    • in starts, he has played better, been more efficient and outproduced Bryce by virtually every statistical metric that exists in 2025.  And has the 2 head to heads over Carolina.  I mean, your jaw should hit the floor.  But not for the reason you are implying.  That freaking stings.  Denying these realities isn't going to help the Panthers build a better team going forward.
    • He is basically having a polar opposite rookie season than Bryce. 4-3 as a starter on a very bad team.  68% for 237 passing yards and 19 rush per game. 9 TDs,  6 TOs in his starts.  and folks acknowledge the surprisingly play because no one thought poo of the random 2nd rounder and he is player better as a rookie thus far than so many prized picks did as a rookies (not just Bryce but a boatload of dudes).   It's only a sour issue to give someone props because he is a Saint and of course the Bryce thing.  It's like giving the TE in Clev props for having near identical production as the chosen one Tyler Warren.  Fannin is having a great rookie season in a very bad spot.
    • This is a very weird take. The reason Shough doesn't deserve it is because he's only started 7 games. He's doing crazy well for a rookie and out playing plenty of vets with a worse roster. He's waaay above league average in a number of categories during his starts and he passes the eye test in game by making plays. Meanwhile Bryce Young had one of the worst rookie seasons of all time. Still TMac deserves it more. It's only been 7 games for Shough so he doesn't deserve any awards. Even if he gets to 9 he doesn't.
