Some of that Kalil $ could have gone toward keeping Norwell

because no one is screaming about Hurney at all hours for no reason in unrelated topics

if anything, people seem to be giving Hurney the benefit of the doubt this offseason. He's done a decent job since coming back.

Oh come on, about half the threads here involve hand wringing about what Hurney is going to screw up next lol.

I get we don't agree, but we don't have to be this blatantly absurd about it.

There's sort of a weird glitch on the website - you have to click twice to get the correct numbers.

For example, we do not gain 3.9 mil from cutting Munnerlyn.  Instead we incur 4.5m. in dead cap and gain nothing.  We're better off keeping him.

Cutting Shepherd cut saves us 2.1 but creates 1.4 in dead cap.

Cutting Adams saves 2.1 but creates .3 in dead cap.  I actually think Adams is worth 2.4 easily.

Cutting Stew saves 3.7 but still causes 1.5 in dead cap.

We do get the full benefit for cutting Fozzy.

The Kalil contract is strange - I'm not sure OTC or Sportrac are valuing it correctly.  But it appears cutting him after the 2018 season will save us 8m off 2019 cap but will cost 4.9 in dead cap (assuming he is designated as a June 1 cut).

Thanks...that is discouraging, but it did not seem right.

So basically Gettleman had a terrible offseason

Not really.  This is all my opinion but...

I actually thought Adams did great for the money.

Shepherd was ok until he was thrust into a position he was not meant for.  I think he was brought in for special teams work and to compete for 4th or 5th WR scraps (after Benjamin, Funchess, and our high draft pick).  I'm generally not sweating someone who will be the 5th or 6th receiving target in our run heavy offense.  But he did have a couple of drops so Gettleman really blew that one.

The Kalil pickup was a little strange but we had to get someone.  He only cost 3.9 against the cap in 2017 and there is a nice out next year.

Peppers was an incredible pickup.

I like the guys we drafted.

The only real issue was Munnerlyn.  I wasn't crazy about this signing and now I believe we are stuck with him for a while.

This was all Ron's idea.  Ron has wanted Cap back in the fold from the moment he left.

So we can't even cut no hands Shepard without creating 1.4 million in dead cap space?

Hurney must be to blame for this debacle somehow.

No one is to blame.  The problem is you are expecting the guy we signed to play special teams and be our 5th or 6th option on passing downs to cost less than a couple mil.  The guy can play, but we're not paying him to be our #2 receiver.

*insert something about not re-signing Ted Ginn*

Riley Reiff was an infinitely better prospect.  I could have stomached losing  Norwell for him.

yea..... you nailed it...... lol

Riley : https://www.profootballfocus.com/nfl/players/riley-reiff/7029

Kalil: https://www.profootballfocus.com/nfl/players/matt-kalil/7010

both are not good and overpaid. But at least one has an escape after year 2 ;)

We acquired both Johnson and Shepard as a response to losing Ginn. Their special team value was supposed to be a bonus. But primarily we wanted them for their speed in the passing game. Suggesting we paid them to be a 5th or 6th option is just revisionist history. We signed them expecting an impact.

Jeremy needs to pin this to the top of the board so people will stop using term “out” or “escape” when referring to Matt Kalil’s contract.

Matt Kalil will cost 14.7M dead money if we cut him AFTER this season. That’s not an escape, it’s a brick to the back of the head.

As I said the minute he signed.....”This is a dark day in Panthers history”.
