He won't even be allowed to call plays hahaha wtf kinda poo is this

Had a suspicion that might be the case.

Reich didn't call plays in Philly. McVay runs the Rams offense. And Jackson didn't even have an OC until this year.

It's not that unusual these days.

Pretty much every team in the NFL runs this way.

As to the Panthers, Gettleman was specifically asked about it when Shurmur was hired. Stated that he had wanted to hire Shurmur but Ron chose Shula and it was his call.

Likewise, back when people were calling for Richard Rodgers to be fired, Cattlemen's specifically told reporters in his presser "That's a Ron question". He added that he could "make suggestions" but that her never step on Ron's toes.

And of course, we already know from Voth and other sources that Gettleman was putting pressure on Rivera to fire Shula and Dorsey last year, but Rivera "stuck his neck out" to keep them.

But of course, I realize your theories carry more weight then the statements of people who are naturally involved :eyeroll:

Again you didn't say anything contradicting what I did. Gettleman had his choice in Shurmur but he obviously was okay with Shula or they would have gone with someone else. The GM has his own thoughts and feelings and so does the coach. So they find someone agreeable to both. The same with letting folks go. They each have input but ultimately it has to be someone the GM is okay with that the coach wants. So Shurmur wanted Shula and obviously Gettleman must have felt he was the best choice of who was available. The idea that the GM only can hire the HC and not have input on anyone else is really stupid. Anyone who has worked in industry and business knows this. Why don't you?

Maybe. It's a much different story now that it's coming out that Shula is basically going to be a figurehead OC in name only. He's basically going to be this rookie QB's babysitter.

You know he won't call plays how? That is your explanation to justify your opinion. I haven't heard Shurmur say anything. Have you?

    • Former league executive and current NFL.com analyst Marc Ross recently named his top second-year breakout candidates for the upcoming campaign. Ross includes Legette, who may be helped out by his team's latest first-round selection. He writes: Legette had a slow start to his NFL career, catching 49 passes for 497 yards and four touchdowns last season. Some of the struggles can be tied to his own growing pains -- he had eight drops on 81 targets, according to Pro Football Focus -- but he had also had to navigate the quarterback shuffle between Bryce Young and Andy Dalton early in Dave Canales' first season leading the Panthers. Canales recently said he believes Carolina has a DK Metcalf-like talent in Legette, who had foot surgery this offseason but was cleared to resume work in early April, and that having a full offseason alongside Young, who took a significant step forward in 2024, could lead to a breakout result in 2025. I anticipate it will also help that Carolina invested another first-round pick in a wide receiver, Arizona's Tetairoa McMillan, to complement Legette in the pass game. McMillan's presence, however, could take some pressure off Legette—who may be able to roam around in a more natural playmaking role. With the 6-foot-4 All-American likely to take on the bulk of the volume from Young, Legette should have some cleaner shots to break out downfield and in the box score.     https://pantherswire.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/panthers/2025/05/06/panthers-wr-xaiver-legette-top-breakout-candidates-2025/83475176007/?taid=681a4610ede05d000149b376&utm_campaign=trueanthem&utm_medium=trueanthem&utm_source=twitter
