Sorensen says we should sign Reid, and he's right.

Can you handle the truth? If you can't, then hit your back button.

Charlotte Observer's Tom Sorensen rightly says that the Panthers need to sign Eric Reid. He keeps it :100_Emoji_42x42:, and I appreciate it!

"The knee is not an affront to servicemen or police officers. There is fake news, and there are fake arguments. That’s a fake argument. Taking a knee is a quiet and nonviolent way to draw attention to racial injustice."

Preach, Sorensen!  Get right down to the nitty gritty. I have said the same thing on this very forum, and will break it down again if need be (if anyone wants to keep disingenuously clinging to a false narrative).

America and NFL ownership is filled with hypocrites, and the Panthers' current owner has been among them. Do the right thing Jerry Richardson! Tell Hurney to bring Reid in and get a deal done. This would go a long way towards repairing your broken reputation in respect to using racist epithets on the down low, and it would finally show Panthers fans that you actually put this organization above the league and its greedy good ol' boy mentality. Frankly, it's time!  You can seize the moment and do the right thing, or continue to be enveloped by old school notions of the perverse status quo and what I'll refer to as patronizing paternalism.

Sorensen's political correctness may be more palatable, and he is absolutely right about why we should sign Reid.

"The Panthers shouldn’t avoid Reid because he takes a knee. They shouldn’t pursue him because he takes a knee. They should pursue him because they need a safety, and because the man can play."

This kneeling thing works both ways--some people want him just because he kneeled, some would blackball him based on that.  But there are other factors here.  Reid has had a few concussions and knee issues.  The 49ers aren't trying to re-sign him, which is bizarre if he's as talented as all his supporters say.

Either you believe in racism or you don't. Either you believe in free speech or you don't. Pretty simple for me.

What does free speech have to do with the way a business runs their company and the employees under their ownership

He's had 3 concussions, and in the last two seasons a bicep and PCL surgery. The 49ers aren't signing him with all their cap space because they know he can't stay healthy. Why in the world would anyone pay this guy $8M?

Kneeling stories drive conversations though I guess....

I served in the USMC from 2003-2007 -- there is absolutely nothing wrong with him taking a knee. It's not a sign of disrespect, it's a gesture that would be respectful enough to garner attention.

We take a knee for injured players, and fallen brothers, and that is the PERFECT way to one, not only pay respects to the black people that LOST THEIR LIVES UNJUSTLY AT THE HANDS OF LAW ENFORCEMENT, but to also generate the attention the matter itself needed.

If you can't support that, then you my friend I hope never have a cause that you'd be willing to sacrifice your lively-hood for and to also not be heard.

Either you believe in peoples right to call you a moron and avoid you or you don't.  Pretty simple for the rest of us.

This is America, so free speech kinda plays a part in everything that we do.  I mean, what are you trying to intimate, that a person has a right to discriminate and blackball based on race? You may be technically right, but ethically you're wrong. If you support institutional racism by what you do or what you don't do, then admit it.

    • He’s set financially for life barring complete fiscal lunacy. He has $12.3 million guaranteed. Think about that. Twelve million three hundred thousand dollars, he’ll be 28 years old when his contract is up and he’s completely forgotten about if he never plays another down in the NFL if he so chooses. Say after taxes he ‘only’ brings home $6M (fire your accountant territory) and parks $4M in a run of the mill mutual fund… good God… What I’m getting at, IF homie ain’t feeling the NFL, he has 12,300,000 reasons to take the fewest NFL edition ass kickings as possible while waiting out his very wealthy non-football future.  Obviously completely talking out of my a$$ with this… but if you hated contact, didn’t want to live with a completely wrecked body for the rest of your life and you know you’re set financially… what path would you take, assuming you’re cool with being a quitter (not calling him a quitter, I’m just playing out a scenario)? Why do so many first rounders bust? Where was he before his one year wonder if he was such a stud?  Everybody likes the dude on a personal level. How could you not? …. but I like seeing a winning product even more. He doesn’t play like his head is in the game. The Why is where the speculation lies and helps to clarify if his issues are ‘fixable’ or not.
