Tepper Out; Bidding down to Navarro and Kestenbaum per NYT

The sale of the Carolina Panthers appears to be near.

David Tepper, the hedge-fund billionaire whom many N.F.L. owners pointed to as the preferred choice to buy the team, has backed out of the auction for the club, according to two people with knowledge of his interest in the team.

Tepper’s departure comes a few weeks after Michael Rubin, the owner of the online retailing giant Fanatics, also bowed out. Both men balked at the asking price of at least $2.5 billion.

Their departures narrow the field to two for membership in the most exclusive and expensive owners club in North American sports: Ben Navarro, who owns Sherman Financial Group, an investment firm; and Alan Kestenbaum, the chief executive of Bedrock Industries, which owns and operates metal and mining companies.

Guess that tour of the facilities didn't go so well, eh?

Kestenbaum had been described by Breer as "on the fringe". General consensus was that it was between Tepper and Navarro. If Tepper is bailing, then it's reasonable to expect Navarro is the guy.

Of course, Kestenbaum could indeed up his bid. We'll see.

Navarro was always JR favorite and it seems, he will be the new Panthers owner.

Just now, The Huddler said:

Pros and cons of navarro?

Has a football background because his dad was a college coach.

Per a poster on here, said by one employee to be a very humble and likable person.

Reportedly very passionate about wanting the team.

Only possible hurdle: they have to make sure he can secure the funds to write the check.

(somebody tell him Felix will chip in, if needed)

    • Btw... only Mitch fugging Marner has a better +/- than Key 🔑!!! And, Mitchy needed 5 more games and almost 100 more shifts to get there.
    • I was honestly flabbergasted to see Rod send out Stanky and the boys to to matchup against their top line to start the game. The reason that line has been so effective is because they've been matched mostly against 2nd and 3rd lines all year. You've got last change. Use it to your advantage.
    • Nobody played well on defense last night. But, the vitriol towards Chatfield (and to a lesser extent, K'andre) is bigly misplaced. People (not just you) just refuse to accept how bad Slavin has been this season. And, I get it. Canes fans (and informed analysts) have spent nearly a decade trying to explain to casuals just how good Jaccccob is at hockey. 4Nations happened and the hockey watching public started to listen. National media even started floating the idea of creating a new award in his honor. Then this season, he gets hurt. It happens. NBD. But, when he finally came back, it wasn't the same. He'll get back to his old self in no time. Probably just some rust, it'll be fine. Only, it wasnt rust, and he's not fine. He's bad right now. It wasnt just last night. Although, that was absolutely the worst game of his NHL career. Slavin (-4) currently has the 3rd worst +/- of anyone left in the playoffs. We've  been begging the world to recognize Jaccob Slavin's greatness. And, by the time we finally got people to listen, he shits the bed! I blame Kash!
