Tepper Out; Bidding down to Navarro and Kestenbaum per NYT

This is going to be a problem. A new owner is going to want facilities that match the best in the NFL, which is going to require a new stadium. An updated stadium will require input from the state and the city, which based on my reading of North Carolina and professional sports, isn't as likely to happen.

Both the state and city have expressed willingness to work with new ownership.... they know what’s up man. Imo they’ve been a little too forthright in the media from a negotiation standpoint but it is what it is. Google it man

If Tepper "Balked" at the price, he wasn't looking to be the owner very long, he was looking to Flip the team. I don't think you buy an NFL team for "Business" sure you don't want to lose money. With that said, 2.5 Billion with inflation, expanding budgets and Contracts, in 10 years it will be worth 4.

I'm told Navarro has de facto won. Tepper has been playing games that rubbed "Mister" the wrong way (as did Tepper himself) and was (again de facto) ruled out first. By the time it was down to Kestenbaum, Bidder #4 (I have named him in another thread), and Navarro, Navarro was far enough out ahead that it was mostly a question of how much rather than of who.

Don't see this at all.  I think Tepper is a hard nosed businessman that has made a career of buying low and increasing profits.  So, IMO, that's all he's doing here.  He doesn't want to overspend on a business that is probably at it's peak as that would limit his future profits.

It's probably the biggest advantage Navarro has.  He clearly REALLY wants the team, and while I'm sure he would love to make a good profit off it, his biggest focus is being owner of the Carolina Panthers.  So while Tepper's first priority is to maximize his profits, Navarro's is to own the team.  It's why Navarro is likely willing to go higher than Tepper, despite Tepper's bank account being significantly bigger.

Since we now know courtesy of David Newton that Navarro is likely to have a small group of partners, it becomes less likely he'll be outbid.

If this dang thread keeps getting pulled from the grave with incorrect info. Please edit the title.

@UNCrules2187 could do that, though admittedly I think it's possible we may find out otherwise soon.

Yeah, and I still wonder if Goodnight is not involved.  That would definitely level the field.

Ironically, not through football (frankly most of my connections at this point are old farts like me or not germane) but through golf!

Long story short, Navarro - a man I had never heard of before this process - is apparently the guy. Kestenbaum was out shortly after Tepper (though kept on the string), and Black was the last "competitor" to Navarro. But again, was more or less a foregone conclusion at a certain point.

    • I agree with OP notion, QBs always get credited for game winning drives even if they do minimal. Just last night Caleb got credited for a GE drive when they basically ran the ball the whole drive and only had to go 36 yards.   And there are drives where Bryce could of had a game winning drive if not for a Legette drop vs Philly or a Chubba fumble vs Tampa
    • You are actually, genuinely comparing Bryce to Jimmy fuging Pickles? Jimmy accounted for 3 touchdowns in his 10 starts in 2010. In Bryce’s 10 games post benching last year, he accounted for 20 touchdowns. Jimmy threw three touchdowns in 2010. Three. Bryce has thrown 10 touchdowns through 6 games. He is currently on track to throw for 3300 yards, 28 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. Wtf are we even talking about anymore. I mean seriously
    • Tepper? The guy that directs the coaches towards goals that he set for them… that guy. He is the one.    I don’t think he ever was going to be expelled from class, they had him come in for garbage time maybe the 2nd week he was benched.  I will say this. People said he wasn’t under pressure the last part of the year when he did better, but he was fighting for his career and that’s pressure. And he saved his career too. I don’t reject him for those kinds of things I reject him for the physical things. I have always brought it down to he has slim margin for error and has to be perfect. People with the tool set have a little fatter margin for error. Why make it harder on yourself? Got nothing to do with hating him.  I am no statistician but game that margin thing out a lot and see how that works.
