Eazy-E's Mock Draft

Eazy-E

Recommended Posts

#24 | CB - Jaire Alexander, Louisville

Although he doesn't fit the mold of a typical Panthers cornerback, he the ball skills and ability to play man that this secondary desperately needs. Julio Jones, Mike Evans, and Michael Thomas aren't going anywhere anytime soon.

#55 | TE - Hayden Hurst, South Carolina

I don't buy the first round hype due to his age and where tight ends have been selected in prior drafts. (Hunter Henry for example was a better prospect coming out and fell to the second round) If not Hurst then another tight end or Justin Reid if he falls to the pick.

#85 | RB - Rashaad Penny, San Diego State

In-between the tackles runner with the ability to catch the ball out of the backfield. Great compliment to McCaffrey.

#88 | G/C - Frank Ragnow, Arkansas

Competition for Moton and insurance for Ryan Kalil. Future starting center.

#161 | DB - Siran Neal, Jacksonville State

Small school prospect with a ton of potential. Could end up as a starting free safety.

#197 | WR - Tre'Quan Smith, Central Florida

Put up great numbers for an undefeated knights team. 78% of his receptions went for a first down. Will potentially have to trade up to select him.

#234 | LB - Oren Burks, Vanderbilt

High character guy who shined at the combine. Doesn't have a true position but could be a great fit for the Panthers buffalo package.

#242 | QB - J.T Barrett, Ohio State

Joe Webb replacement.

I don't understand the infatuation with Hurst. He hasn't played competitive football for that long and is 25 already.

This year's TE class is very weak.

We would be better off singing a veteran stopgap for a year then addressing the problem next year when hopefully the class is better and we can get a solid player at pick 32

For me it's more about knowing the Panthers have interest in him than personally liking him as a prospect. He could even be their RD1 pick I think.

Me too.. Spending a 1st round pick on a backup TE (for at least 2 years) who is more of a Kris Magnum "solid guy" than a Olsen "elite guy".. smh..

No safety until the 5th round ? I'm sorry if we go into the season with Adam's and Sercy as our starters it's a fail.

Here is how I view it: You go best TE or S available in the second. That's why I mentioned Justin Reid would be the pick if he fell to 55. I just think it is more likely Hurst is there than Reid. After the draft is usually when round 2, I guess you could call it, of free agency begins. Teams sometimes make cuts based on their picks and you can re-evaluate your roster with the new draft picks added. Right now the free agent safety market is pretty stout in comparison to the tight end market. I think we would be better off drafting a tight end and signing another veteran safety.

    • ^I want that, but Rodriguez over KC. Don't hate KC as much at that spot, but rather take a WR with the pick we gain in that trade than in the 1st.
    • I think there is good points in this thread to what the team needs to do. 1) Ball isn't really the issue but, he needs reigned in.  Coach and he need to realize when things aren't falling from the three and learn to play other facets of the game.  He's an amazing talent and when he's on, he's on.  But he can also shoot you out of a game.  We're lucky Miami went that way but that is too many missed threes.  He still needs to bulk up if he can, but he needs to drive more.  He's pretty good at finishing usually and hopefully the fouls come (probably not though).   2) The whole team needs to be more physical.  As others have stated, we need more bulk in our bigs.  Diabate is a hurricane of energy but cannot go against the larger centers.  I love him on the team but he should be more of a match up type guy or energy off the bench.  I think he'd be insane off the bench.  However I think the biggest issue with Diabate and Kaulk is the lack of offensive game.  The lack of a jump shot or anything.  Teams figured out to just leave them on the screen and crash lanes.  There has to be some sort of threat.  We need a 4 and a 5 that can do those things and stretch out the court. 3) Bridges.  He's just undersized.  However, I feel he really threw his all into it the last few weeks when others were gassed.  He was ok not being a focal point.  I'd like to have him off the bench as well but I assume he'd be traded to make things work.  4) Miller.  Dude can light it up when on, but disappears for quarters at a time.  Also he needs to work on ball handling and passing.  He's a turnover machine at bad times.  Also hopefully over the injury so he can bulk up too.   5) Kon. Just a rookie.  Long season and back injury.  I have no doubt he'll be back stronger and focused.  Needs to work on defense and physicality like the whole team but yes, a rookie he'll get there. 6) Coby.  Has to be resigned, no question.  The bench lineup is rough without him running the point.  Team has big potential and the front office seems sharp.  They seen the hive and how crazy it got and how much the city wants this.
