Possible delay in the team sale

Mr. Scot

I’ll always believe, in some measure, he hastily announced the sale of his franchise to stay insulated and in his comfort zone. I’m sure he felt no obligation to apologize publically, nor would he ever subject himself to prolonged scrutiny from the national media (and eventually other owners).

From a business perspective, he did dodge a good deal of brand damage—for himself and for  the league. I’m sure that was part of the design with a prompt announcement of sale. So, yes, he’s probably regretting it now, and that’s his right. But you can’t much fight this now after cowardly weasling out without a fight in December.

It’s a bit sad how it’s all ending for him, but I’m honestly relieved a transition is coming. I’m pulling for Navarro myself, but I don’t think either option to be terribly bad.

It’s funny, if he decided he wasn’t going to sell now, I don’t think the National media would have the capacity or incentive to roast him over it. #MeToo is backburner now, an he likely doesn’t fit the profile to reignite that movement.

I do think the fans and city would absolutely go batshite bonkers, and rightfully so.

It’s fascinating, but I’m pretty much ready for it to be over.

We talked a little bit about this in the thread about Gantt's interview.

I remember the first hint that anything was going on was the announcement of the internal investigation.  I believed then, and still do now, that Richardson thought the NFL would allow him to run his own investigation of the incidents (which naturally would have found no wrongdoing on his part) and then everything would go back to normal.  But the NFL, of course, said "not so fast".

Then the SI piece came out.  At that point, Richardson saw the NFL wasn't gonna let him basically investigate himself, so he agreed to sell the team thinking that the NFL wouldn't bother investigating him if he did that.  Of course, not only did the NFL continue with their investigation, but they handed it to an independent party.

I'd agree that Richardson believed then, and believes to this day, that he did nothing wrong.  Hence, the NFL not covering for him was probably seen as a betrayal.  Especially so after all the years he'd spent trying to do what was best for the league.

As a general rule, guys who have gotten away with something for a long, long time really don't like it when they can't get away with it anymore.

Albert Breer has said more than once that the NFL wants him out, and forgotten, as soon as possible.

As someone else mentioned, it'll likely be a pretty ugly spectacle if they end up having to force him out, but they do have the power.

Given what Gantt said recently, Richardson an a--hole and trying to screw up the process wouldn't exactly be a big stretch.

Hey, @TheMaulClaw, think your pal could convince Navarro to make a call to Jim Goodnight?

I've already dropped Goodnight's name once...but I'm sure Navarro has considered all his best options.

I’ll wait until the May owners meeting before starting to freak out that JR has staged a coup and decided to go out with a bang. No deadline has passed yet and there is no hard evidence JR is trying to sabotage anything. It’s harder than a simple yes or no to sell a multi billion dollar BRAND. Spare me the conspiracy theories until something actually happens to complain about.

I love how everyone keeps saying “the two contenders” or “between the two” when we just got confirmation that Kestenbaum was in charlotte  TODAY. (technically yesterday but I haven’t been to sleep yet) say what you want about “retired college coach” It does feel like Jerry using up all the time possible to squeeze money out of Navarro.

but Kestenbaum being here does discredit retiredcoach’s whole “he was out, then he was out, and now he’s out” story.

Either way i don’t like Kestenbaum and never liked Tepper and like him even less knowing the NFL is trying to throw him on us while he sits back like he’s entitled to a franchise to play with. Meanwhile Navarro is here and is by all accounts an awesome candidate for owner who fills all the boxes besides being in the NFL- billionaire boys club. Unlike everyone else who seems fine with it being Tepper I for one will be pissed if it’s sold to anyone besides Navarro at this point. The team owns the stadium and we have a one year tarrif on leaving. Thus making this franchise the easiest franchise to move in the NFL. If you were ever gonna get leech types buying a franchise just to move it it would be now....

Navarro has the high bid, Tepper isn't close but NFL league office only wants this to end With Tepper being announced.  JR said no to his offer, Tepper said he wouldnt offer more. JR pissed at the league for trying to force him into the Tepper offer and is holding this out now and thinking about forcing the NFL's hand to get rid of him.

I have a feeling that the above NFL nightmare situation is getting close to actually happening.

Just wait for the results of who it will be and if it is the wrong guy that buys the team then go and use your biggest sledgehammer and bash the tv. Until then let things work out till then and keep calm.

Some people are into this kind of drama more than the game. They will disappear during the season like clockwork.

Or maybe some people are just really interested in the sale of the team.  Something that will, you know, affect the team for many years to come.

Meanwhile, some contribute nothing to any discussion, choosing to simply whine and b--ch about what other people write instead.
