Max Henson officially confirms the search is on for a team president, and a few other things...

Kinda wonder what signs they took down

I'm wondering if they painted over Jerry's 5 values?

Speaking of changes....

Listened to a radio interview with Mick Mixon. He mentioned a meeting Tepper had yesterday with social media and broadcast staffers.  Apparently he made some references to concerns that practice in the intense heat can have on player fatigue and conditioning.  Sounds like those indoor practice facilities will be built sooner rather than later and that you can say goodbye to Spartanburg.

That's interesting.

Yeah, he cited studies that have emerged recently.  I seem to recall Tampa changing their training camp practices to early morning due to similar concerns, and Gerry V who was interviewing Mixon said the Saints also had studied the issue and changed training camp.

Aren't most of our training camp practices late afternoon or mostly morning now?

One other name that had been mentioned that i had forgotten...

I think it was Daniel Jeremiah who suggested that Tepper try to finagle Ozzie Newsome to run the transition.

Given that the heavy lifting for the Ravens coming season is already done, it's technically possible, but seems highly unlikely.

Guess I'll go ahead and give the Huddle an exclusive...

It's me. I'm the new team president.

First order of business is pulling in Zaxby's as a sponsor for the concession stands. Second order of business is erasing the current library of musical score for gamedays, save "Welcome to the Jungle" and "Cat Scratch Fever," and replacing it with a heavy dose of death metal and hip hop.

You're welcome in advance.

Interesting they might try the Greenbrier then if that is the thinking.

Here's another possibility to think of as Team President, though I'd also call it an unlikely one.

Marty Hurney

There was talk of Marty Hurney taking over a non-personnel role and handing the actual GM duties to someone else before, and such an option is still open,  It allows Marty to stay with the Panthers while also allowing the Panthers to get a real GM in place to build the roster.

To be real though, this is the kind of thing that would probably be more likely as a "next year" option.  Not that you couldn't move Marty now, but this isn't the best time of year to do a GM search.  It's arguably more inconvenient for other teams than it would at a more appropriate time.

So again, possible...but unlikely.

I think Tepper wants some fresh ideas.

Me too.

My top candidate is still Omar Khan.  The one question I have with Khan though is whether he would want the job.  If he really wants to be a personnel guy rather than an organizational architect, then this might not be an ideal fit.

That being the case, it'd probably be better to wait a year and see if the GM option comes open.

    • Just another 1st round QB that never paid off for the team that drafted them or traded for them. It's been like this since the SB began. 36 QBs have now won the SB & only 13 of them have been 1st rounders winning with their original team. Namath 1968, Griese 1972, Bradshaw 1974, McMahon 1985, Simms 1986, Aikman 1992, Elway 1997, Roethlisberger 2005, P.Manning 2006, E.Manning 2007, Rodgers 2010, Flacco 2012, & Mahomes 2019. Only 3 have taken longer than 5 seasons as the starter to win a SB.  4  6  5  4  6  4  15  2  9  4  3  5  2 [the years it takes for these 1st round QBs] 5  1  4  1  3  1  1  2  3  4  [10 of the 36 have won a chip with their 1st team that haven't been drafted in the 1st round. These are the years it took them as a starter] What stands out? Only 2 of these QBs have lost their first championship appearance. Elway took 4 years as a 1st rounder & Hurts took 2 years as a 2nd rounder. Of the 10 non-1st round QBs, 2 are 2nd rounders, 3 are 3rd rounders, 5 are 6th rounders or later. Please stop wasting time on drafting 1st round QBs with such a high failure rate. The remaining 13 QBs are traded or free agent signings. Stafford, Favre, Young, Williams and Dawson are the 5 trades. Peyton Manning & Tom Brady also won for teams as free agents on a short stay as well as being drafted. The lesson here is don't waste your franchise on farming up 1st rounders for the league, and steer clear of trading for a franchise QB. Stick to finding that championship QB by drafting them outside of the 1st round or through free agency.
    • I lost most of the respect I had for Fox in 2010. He should have resigned if he hated the job that much. Instead he stuck for his paycheck and let stuff go to hell.    I burned out on Ron too but my deal breaker issue with him was away from football and after he was gone from the Panthers. He may have been out of his depth but never quit on us.
    • From where they were one year ago to now, pretty incredible. I mean, say what you want about Vrabel he is no Jerrod Mayo.
