We know this is just a segue in order to keep talking about him for another year.

Nah, but thanks for playing. We have some lovely consolation gifts for you.

Perhaps at some future date you can actually contribute something interesting.

This. JR is gone. This is Tepper's organization now. Any changes that are made or not made are his decisions.

Future decisions, yes.

The team that's going into this season, though? Tepper had nothing to do with building it at all.

Whether the team succeeds or fails, how much credit can you give to someone who had no say in putting it together?

I think it’s too early to say . Will he make any changes mid season if things are not going well ? Or will he wait until the season is over to make any moves ..that will be the key .

I'd add that it also remains to be seen just how actively involved he's going to be.

Based on his own comments about how much he doesn't know and the fact that his hedge fund firm is still his top priority, my guess would be not much.

We'll see, though.

I agree with that . I’m thinking he’s basically going to do nothing until he gets his footing .

He has everything to do with it. He could hand them all their walking papers right now if he wanted to do it.

Could. Yes.

But barring some major intervention in the roster, we can expect to finish this season with a team that David Tepper had little or nothing to do with.

whether we win a Superbowl or wind up with the number one draft pick, either way, I'm not sure how much credit you can give to David Tepper.

I think this is Tepper's first year. The fact he is being patient is a good thing and he gets credit for what he doesn't do as much as what he does do. Other than hiring a team president, I don't know he will make wholesale changes especially if we do well this year. Whether is was smoke and mirrors or sincere praise, he likes both Rivera and Hurney and is giving the chance to make it or break it. As opposed to a Snyder or Jones who overreact often making things worse not better.

Jerry who?

I’ve moved on, and let the past stay in the past (except I won’t forget the 2015 season). This is Teppers first year in my book.

But is that a practical answer or an emotional answer?

Emotionally speaking, I think the vast majority of people would say they view the Richardson era as over, and that's a good thing.

To be clear though, I'm asking the question on purely practical terms.

I'm obsessed with good discussion.

You're obsessed with trying to convince people you're better or smarter than you actually are, hence why you dump on other people's comments so much.

FYI: That's also what makes you boring.

This is silly, meaningless discussion. Tepper is officially the owner. The discussion ends there.

Definitely Tepper's team. People underestimate the effect an owner can have, even if they aren't getting directly involved in football decisions. There will be off the field issues or potential disciplinary actions against players that Tepper would be involved in. Besides, there's still a 53-man roster to cut down to and Tepper could technically have the final say on any player's fate.

Richardson had been a lame duck for a while.

Even making the decision to do nothing is doing something.

The team hasn't even been whittled down yet. There are still lots if decisions to be made, and Richardson doesn't get the credit for the final product.

I definitely see this ad the beginning of the Tepper era.

    • Just another 1st round QB that never paid off for the team that drafted them or traded for them. It's been like this since the SB began. 36 QBs have now won the SB & only 13 of them have been 1st rounders winning with their original team. Namath 1968, Griese 1972, Bradshaw 1974, McMahon 1985, Simms 1986, Aikman 1992, Elway 1997, Roethlisberger 2005, P.Manning 2006, E.Manning 2007, Rodgers 2010, Flacco 2012, & Mahomes 2019. Only 3 have taken longer than 5 seasons as the starter to win a SB.  4  6  5  4  6  4  15  2  9  4  3  5  2 [the years it takes for these 1st round QBs] 5  1  4  1  3  1  1  2  3  4  [10 of the 36 have won a chip with their 1st team that haven't been drafted in the 1st round. These are the years it took them as a starter] What stands out? Only 2 of these QBs have lost their first championship appearance. Elway took 4 years as a 1st rounder & Hurts took 2 years as a 2nd rounder. Of the 10 non-1st round QBs, 2 are 2nd rounders, 3 are 3rd rounders, 5 are 6th rounders or later. Please stop wasting time on drafting 1st round QBs with such a high failure rate. The remaining 13 QBs are traded or free agent signings. Stafford, Favre, Young, Williams and Dawson are the 5 trades. Peyton Manning & Tom Brady also won for teams as free agents on a short stay as well as being drafted. The lesson here is don't waste your franchise on farming up 1st rounders for the league, and steer clear of trading for a franchise QB. Stick to finding that championship QB by drafting them outside of the 1st round or through free agency.
    • I lost most of the respect I had for Fox in 2010. He should have resigned if he hated the job that much. Instead he stuck for his paycheck and let stuff go to hell.    I burned out on Ron too but my deal breaker issue with him was away from football and after he was gone from the Panthers. He may have been out of his depth but never quit on us.
    • From where they were one year ago to now, pretty incredible. I mean, say what you want about Vrabel he is no Jerrod Mayo.
