This Fantasy Article on Curtis Samuel got me hyped as hell

Samuel was a true RB/WR hybrid player in college. How many other players in the NFL today can you say that about? I think none, and not any player in the NFL today who starred at both the RB and WR positions simultaneously in a major college conference. There have been guys who have been running backs moved to wide receiver for a spell or season or vice versa, but no player I can think of in recent years truly ran the dual role, performing great at both, and with the defense never knowing where he was going to line up next, other than Samuel. Such a unique player drafted highly by the Panthers — and one year later we’re all like, “Boooorrrrring!”

Thoughts? I love it even though its got a fantasy slant.

    As a Michigan State fan, I have been waiting almost 2 years for this kid to show out. This kid is one of the most exciting players I have seen in the last...good while. If he can stay healthy, which was never a problem. You all are in for a treat.

 

    Samuel is an athlete, with speed, and he is soooo quick. What you saw this preseason, is what we are going to see all year. He is going to be a yardage machine. 

 

    He, and CmC are going to be a whole lot of fun.

Nooone that I've ever seen has a break as quick and smooth as Samuel. He never looses acceleration making his cuts and he's so far ahead of the curve for a guy who's literally learned WR for maybe 2-3 years WHILE primarily learning to be a RB.

He's an absolute candidate to be our future WR1 and I'm excited for him.

I'm curious to see how Norv will utilize CMC and Samuel. I feel like the two of them on the field together has the potential to be a match up nightmare for opposing defenses but Shula couldn't figure it out with his crayons and coloring book.

I still want to see us give a look with CMC and Samuel flanking Cam in the shotgun. Either guy can take a handoff as a RB, run a route out of the backfield, or split out wide as a WR.

There's a bit of revisionist history going on in that article with regards to Samuel's performance against Miami last year (his catching technique was awful, and he had already dropped that would-be TD pass before the Miami defender landed on his ankle), but I agree with most of what was written. He has looked a lot better this preseason than he did last year, actually snaring passes with his hands rather than basket catching everything and effectively using jab steps to get defenders to turn their hips the wrong way and create separation. I'm excited to see what he does in games that count, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him hit 50+ catches this season.

Yeah, Samuel looked really raw as a WR last year, no way around it. But, he looked greatly improved and a lot more comfortable this preseason.

What? Tavon Austin, Dexter Mccluster, Randall Cobb, Tyreke Hill, Deanthony Thomas. Those are just off the top of my head 

 

I like Samuel but this guy is acting like he’s the first of his kind and going to revolutionize the nfl lol. As far as fantasy football goes Samuel is not worth even picking up

      And once again I showed you it’s been pretty even. We spent 2nd and 3rd rounders this past draft on edge rushers. No one’s going to sit here and do the math on a draft value chart etc. the only reason I even entertained this was because you said we’ve spent nothing on defense when that simply isn’t true. It also didn’t help we traded our ONLY WR worth a damn to trade up for Bryce soo… And this is kind of the issue with the anti Bryce crowd. This crowd tends to blame him for the trade up. I was team Stroud. Had the panthers not taken Young the only other QB they were going to take was Richardson. So your issue should be with Tepper, Morgan, Fitterer not Bryce.  Bryce is who he is and it was pretty obvious who he was during the draft process. Bryce is slowly developing into that guy most thought he’d be. Give him a WR like Jamo and this offense as a whole would improve greatly.  Anyone thinking he was the next Pat Mahomes or Josh Allen is clearly slow. Bryce was always going to need pieces around him much like EVERY other QB Burrow has Chase and Higgins and they’ve done nothing. After losing in AFC Championship in 2022, Burrow is 17-15. QB’s need a team around them It’s why a Jalen Hurts led Eagles team dismantled a Pat Mahomes led KC team in the SB Imo the QB’s doing the most with the least up until this year have been Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson  This year it’s Drake Maye and Josh Allen  Outside of the 3-5 elite type QB’s I’m not really sure what people expect here. Is Bryce ever going to be in that elite category? Nope. Should we punt on Bryce and keep swinging? I don’t think so. Should we keep swinging while hanging onto Bryce? Yeah but I don’t know what that looks like This team as a whole isn’t very good. Offense and defense and that’s the simple truth

      I didn't move the goal posts. But anyone who follows football who wants to engage in a rational discussion can't argue that 10 7th round picks are equal to 10 1st rounders in value. The argument has always been we haven't spent as much on defense has we have on offense. Draft picks have value just like salary. We have not spent the same amount of draft pick salary cap on defense that we have on offense since drafting Bryce. It's not even close. Just the 2 1sts we used on Bryce, 2 overall 1sts have a value of 6000. That doesn’t even factor in DJ Moore or the 2 2nds. Bryce cost more than everything we've spent on defense in 6 damn years.

      We need to hope this scenario plays our next week he fails with pressure…what that means with Evero, is beyond me
