Absolutely love Greg Olsen, what he has meant for Cam and the city...but this is exactly why you don't extend him.  Do not pay for past performance.

Hope he can get through the rest of the year.

Hindsight sure has put some of those decisions in perspective, hasn't it?

That's not hindsight people were talking about this when TD/Olsen and Gettleman 'thing' was going on. I thought you were actually one of the ones saying we should be moving on if not have already moved on. Regardless it's not what consistent winning teams do and we need to have replacements ready to go like already starting last year or soon as possible.

Well, now it's hindsight.

But yes, it's true that the Panthers have used contracts to reward prior performance in the past. The most obvious example was Jake Delhomme.

And yeah, it's bad practice. That's one of those "family atmosphere" things.

What happens now though as the GM is still Hurney and the HC Rivera.

Don't think Tepper is going to hire/fire players...that same poo could still happen even if JR is gone, have to wait and see.

Not a fan of Hurney but to be fair to him, Jerry Richardson made that call.

Clearly Big Dave Gettleman was prepared to make Olsen and TD58 play out their deals but "The Big Cat" vetoed it....

....and here we are.

I firmly believe that Jerry fired DG over the Davis and Olsen "thing" they were pulling.

I firmly believe that Jerry pushed DG to overpay for Kalil's little brother.

I firmly stated that extending Davis and Olsen was not a good move at the time, and certainly not when you have the ability to look back.

We have done business this way for many years..it's going to take quite some time to acclimate the fanbase to how the NFL really works.

That's definitely a wait and see thing.

Hurney did hand more cash over to both Davis and Olsen, but that was while Tina Becker was "in charge" (yeah, right) and while those may have been mistakes, at least they were smaller mistakes than past ones.

As to Tepper, I think if we asked former Pittsburgh players whether the Steelers were willing to reward past performance with new contracts, I have a pretty good idea what kind of answer we'd get.

Heck, the Steelers have typically been one of those "better to let a guy go too early than too late" teams for a while now. Pretty sure a lot of fans here would be ready to take part in a (non-roaring) riot if they saw us playing hardball with guys like Antonio Brown or Le'Veon Bell.

I agree with you on every point.

I also believe sending Josh packing was Jerry's directive.

I actually think that Ron and DG had a talk about Josh.  DG probably laid out what it would take to get him, who/what we would have to give up/not acquire to keep him, etc....and they both likely decided to move on.

P.S. I also think it was the right move, and Wash is likely to cut him this offseason.
