I hate this stat(lowest in league in deep pass attempts)

I’m hoping our deep routes are being saved for shoot out games (like NO surely will be) and late season.

I’m perfectly fine winning with dink and dunks, especially with how bad our D has been playing. I’m sure we have to be near the top on biggest gains from LOS

It is true that one of the most explosive offenses we've had (probably other than 2015) was Cam's first year under Chud.  Chud certainly called plays down the field.  The offensive line was pretty solid that year (Gross, Wharton, Kalil, Hangartner, & Bell) and we ran a lot of 2 TE sets as well with Olsen & Shockey.  We did have Smitty, but we also had Legedu Naanee (lol) as our starting receivers (LaFell was #3) so we while we did have a still-in-his prime Smitty, I don't know that the receiving corp overall was any better.

The more I think about it, the more concerning it is tbh...  I know the flux in our Oline and the desire for Cam to get rid of the ball faster plays into it, but we simply aren't taking (or more importantly hitting) deep shots like we were.  

I'm sure there is a lot of reasons that contribute, but it is the biggest issue on offense we need to address as the season progresses to truly be dangerous.

There is nothing wrong with have a strong running game and methodically moving down the field, and keeping our defense off the field seems like a good thing so far, sadly enough, but teams need to fear our ability to hit a home-run ball, and that just hasn't been there through 1/4 of the season.

Plus we have some serious YAC guys on the team - CMC and Moore alone have taken away a lot of potential deep shots by chewing up yards between the twenties.

Love how you just make statements with no facts to back it up. What does being wide open have to do with the fact that he threw a 35 yarder in the air along the sidelines with great accuracy showing he can still throw the deep ball. Let's be real he has never had a cannon for an arm after shoulder surgery. He counts on accuracy more than throwing on a rope. And they got rid of Cooks because he was unhappy about not getting targeted every play so they traded him for a first rounder.

Cause any QB in the league, matter of fact any QB in college football can hit a receiver 35 yards down the field wide open with good protection. That isn’t the litmus test for a good deep ball which Brees doesn’t have anymore.

I made a thread weeks ago watching Ravens vs Bengals, this offense for the last 3 seasons just can't seem to get single coverage on a deep ball. I watch multiple teams get a 1 on 1 deep, no safety to help

I think defenses are always playing single high or tampa 2, but with single high we have to get someone to pull that safety and open something for someone else, it's crazy and honestly annoying. I feel like defenses adjusted to our 2015 season, but we haven't really evolved offensively since then, we're just throwing it shorter now

I've seen Funchess get separation.

As a matter of fact,  Devin's route running has notably improved.  Sure,  he never will be a smallish shifty guy,  but for a big guy he looks pretty good. Of course he is not a deep threat,  but I've seen him get open plenty this season.

Again no one is saying that he has ever had a cannon for an arm. But deep balls can be 35 yards in the air and another 25 for the score if thrown over a shoulder in perfect position to catch it without stopping. It counts just as much as one that travels 50 yards in the air. And is perfect for Ginn who only needs a step on someone to be gone.

Yeah but that’s not the point, the point is why the saints don’t throw it deep and it’s cause Brees doesn’t have a good deep ball anymore. When was the last time you see Brees throw a 50 yard pass on the rope with the receiver in tight coverage.

I agree and when people start to key in on this their will be chances for deep plays. Samuel and Moore will catch fire at some point and CBS are going to have to pick their poison. Ian Thomas can get down field as well but he's still raw.
