I know Norman isn't the first guy to have the tag rescinded. It's happened a few times before. I couldn't tell you whether the guys who had it happen were successful or not though. I'd have to look that up.

there's a lot of speculation that the next guy it's going to happen to will be Le'Veon Bell.

I’m like you in thinking there are a few cases but haven’t dug into it. Just know it’s very rare and usually happens earlier when teams can use the cap space on FA.

And Bell, who is reporting next week, is a perfect example. Look at how long and how much BS he’s pulled and they still didn’t rescind his tag.

I just can’t get over how some “guy” just went in there and got Josh what no agent probably could have hoped to have done. In hindsight it worked out for everyone. I just always wonder if Josh took care of him or really fired him?

Actually josh fired the guy that was playing hardball with us and hired another guy that got him the skins contract

wish he still played for us

Getting the contract from Washington was the easy part. There were other teams willing to pay him. Getting the Panthers to let him go was genius. He couldn’t have asked for anything more than immediately becoming an UFA.

Never thought of it like that...so not only was gettleman arrogant, he got played as well

Sort of. But he wasn’t in a good position either way. Can’t trade him if he won’t sign. And as I said earlier, IMO, Josh could have been hard to deal with without a new deal. Many players in his position can be.  He didn’t have a good option. But that’s his fault for waiting until April after FA was basically over. Wasn’t good for us at the time, but it’s worked out. He just isn’t worth what he thought he was.

Have you forgotten about the part where after hearing the Panthers rescinded the tag Josh promptly fired his agent and  picked up the phone and tried to convince the team to take him back?

Apparently....

That may be true. But where did he go and for how much? That says more than claiming he didn’t want a long term deal from some team. And he got 36M more guaranteed to go to the Redskins. He wasn’t coming back.

Jerry Richardson is responsible for letting Josh go, period.

Jerry is unstable, volatile, and prone to really bad emotionally driven snap decisions...this is indisputable.

Other than saving more than $13 million for the owner and his partners, and making the player in question (Josh) squirm, there was no case to be made for not paying Josh the tag and therefor capitalizing on the momentum the Panthers had on the heels of the 2015 Super Bowl run.

In the off-season before 2016 the season the Panthers had no commitment to Josh other than the 1-year tag......Gettleman would have never offered the tag if he didn't thing it was the proper course of action, and it was undoubtedly the correct thing to do.  Subsequent contract negotiations were a completely separate issue and I have no doubt Mr. Gettleman would have conducted those in a manner that were fair to both parties, all while protecting THE TEAM.

Unfortunately when Josh's agent started acting out in the public arena The Big Cat got miffed about it (was going to write "butt-hurt" but that's such a lame and laughable phrase) and his volcanic tendencies exploded....

....and Josh was gone.

I guess you missed where Josh and JR were close  and many referenced the handling of Normsn as contributing to removing Gettleman. Good attempt but maybe do some basic research before inventing theories out of thin air.

While I know Josh has not had the performances he's had here...he can still get into people's heads and ego.  Wouldn't be surprised if he challenges Cam all day to throw it at him, and Cam takes that invitation...if Norman will be matched up with Funchess...he'll eat DFunch up.

Funchess would have zero catches. No question about it. Josh is good against size and weak against quickness.
