Don’t know why people thought he was going to be some kind of game changing player. He has always been a mediocre starting safety. He made the pro bowl as like the 5th alternate when he was a rookie playing behind an amazing front 7. I actually think he’s been fine. Not good but not really bad either.

Luke released Vernon Davis because Reid was supposed to be covering over the top. That's pretty bad on Reid when Jordan Reed was triple covered.

While there has been a lot of hoopla about his kneeling, I thought that the real issue was he just wasn't a great starting safety who wanted starting safety money.

I'd let him stick around this year, but if Gaulden is ready, time to turn it over.  I respect his social justice stance and work, but if he's not improving our defense and taking time away from a young, developing player with a better ceiling...  You know how this should go.

Reid has just got to play better.  For us, I hope he is able to find that former Pro Bowl player inside there somewhere and help us win games.

Reid is going to become a bench warmer if he doesn't pick it up soon and when season is over back to unemployment couch. Gaulden will most likely be thrown into the mix to play if that happens. Only thing is we may become a target of negativity if we release Reid end of season to because we did not give him enough of a chance to play and keep him on the team.

I agree with both of these statements.   I don't see him sticking around if he's not going to perform at an above average level.  Gaulden is young and hungry even if he acts like an idiot sometimes (UT fan, I can say that).  I think Reid will turn it around in the next week or so.  Hoping for a big game against Philly.

yea, distraction affect the WHOLE team, and we already have average (at best) coaching and other talent issues. Team chemistry means more than people give credit for...not to mention smith and reid would love to see cupperpunk here...now, an elite QB has top look over his shoulder...yea, it has an affect...

Fact is, he hasn’t made the sort of impact on the field that warranted the Tinderbox-wide ejaculation that occurred upon his signing.

With that sort of reaction, you’d think he would have made at least ONE memorable play through his first 2 games with Carolina.

Such anger

Nah, not angry at all.  I just put the on-field success of my favorite team before this week’s SJW hot issue.  Tepper likely signed Reid as a mixture of both, wanting to look good to all his fellow lefties, while at the same time signing a quality player.  Unfortunately for all of us fans, so far, Tepper has only accomplished the first half of that.  Reid has done very little on the field to warrant the amount of hype he got.

Through 2 games, Reid has a PFF rating of 56.1

For context, Gaulden has a 59.6, Jones has a 46.1, Adams has a 63.9 and Searcy had a 66.5

Curious to see what Gaulden/Jones/Adams/Searcy grades were after week 2.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
