Ugh giving someone a position who doesn't have the experience seems like a ridiculous idea. But I will say I've liked the play of our DBs outside of Munny who seems to be the weakest link if Elder could get one game he'd probably outplay him but Ron's a injury not performance type of coach when it comes to making personnel changes.

lol a whole heap of trouble

Every coach in the league has been new to the position at some point and obviously didn't have experience. They have to start  somewhere.

Did I make a definitive statement about what he does or does not read?

Here's a definitive statement: If Eric Washington reads the Huddle and frets about what we think, then we are good and proper fuged.

Thanks for the English lesson

I'm not blaming Washington yet.  Our DTs need to start getting QB pressure up the middle because this has been a hallmark of our defense for a long time.  Pressure up the middle affects everything and without elite edge rushers, our D is predicated on our DTs getting after the QB.

To be fair though. There really is not much you can do with a QB that can operate the dink and dunk Offense. And Smith happens to be one of the best. They are going to move the ball on you. The only way to beat them is when they get into the RedZone. The field shrinks, and they become less efficient. You have to wait on penalties, or dropped passes, otherwise Smith is going to move the ball.

Ah hellz, there is something wrong right now. I don't care who fixes it. Just get it fixed would ya.

I believe the problem for the whole defense does begin with the D-line. Washington's move from that position has impacted it, but before we hang him out to dry, there is something to consider:

Even with a brand new D-line coach, you still have Addison, Horton, Poe and Short at the heart of that line -- all are longtime veteran players. Love and Butler are also experienced (Kyle Love much moreso). And then you have Julius Peppers, a living legend, a guaranteed Hall of Fame DE right there with his hand in the dirt right alongside them. These guys shouldn't be hurt by the coaching change. They know what to do and how to do it. They just don't seem to be really pushing the pile, though. It just feels like there's a lack of effort, a tiredness to the group, and not one tied to age.

Someone needs to be holding the group accountable, whether it be the new DL coach, Washington himself or one of the vets on the line. What used to be the strength of the Panthers' defense is looking like a toothless tiger now. Same, or better, guys there.

So choice E. Washington needs to develop a leader for that group and get them motivated again. Lot of guys playing like they are there just to cash checks.

We are 3rd in the NFL at getting pressure? That doesn't seem right. Being awful at allowing big runs seems dead on though.
