It’s time to talk about what’s wrong with Luke

Ok lets chat about Luke.

The guy is the only one on the field who knows what's going on.

He's constantly directing and shifting and covering everyones ass.

His coordinator is ass.  Continually putting our best player in bad situations.

Luke is balling despite the poor design.

Finally, of all the harebrained, insignificant, laughable gripes, this is by far the worst.

Angry fans need a fall guy and OP picked the wrong one. There’s a lot of hyperbole thrown around in this dogshit cesspool of stupidity and too much is in this thread.

Who’s angry... who’s throwing insults, I’m just aknowleding an observation. It could be the bad play around him dline or whatever, but the fact is he hasn’t been the top lb in football this season by a mile. Not seeing the splash impact plays and he seems to always not be in position on passing downs. Seeing him miss more tackles this year.

I want him to succeed, but nobody is exempt from criticism. I’m not gonna blindly homer cheer for a lie like you tho.

If you watch the game offensive linemen are regularly getting to the second level.  Our Dline does not demand double teams.  No matter how good Luke is he either has to take on and shed the block of a 300lb Olineman, choose a side and go around giving the running back a cut lane, or take an angle slightly backwards to make the tackle 6 or 7 yards down field.  This is an issue with the Dline and no middle linebacker can continuously take on Olineman in the second level and be successful.  Just look at what happened to Ray Lewis the year after Goose retired.

I think Luke is a very smart man and I feel like he thinks we could be a lot better defensively but we're not, and that sorta sucks the wind out of him.  So he sorta starts playing half heartedly here and there while thinking to himself......This shouldn't be happening!  The guy is a beast when things are going right, he feeds off of that.

It seems we play the same soft zone with him and TD and tight ends eat up the middle alive. you always see the replay saying oh td or Luke had this guy while they stay 10 yards away in their zone.

I don't get it. It seems it has happened every game and the all 22 film doesnt show that level or perspective a close up game cam does.

the touch down last night over the middle with Vance was a push off on Luke. He was on him until the last 2 seconds and got pushed back.

Steelers got those calls all night and that is ABs game is the hip push off. No one seemed to tell Donte Jackson about that either.

Luke is a beast and will always be. I think its more coaching. His blitz only work when its a delay or a stunt to open up a gap.

Eric Washington is the problem. When the entire D looks broken after a coordinator change it's easy to pinpoint the issue. Yeah, we lost Star but we gained Eric Reid and Dante Jackson. From a personnel standpoint there's no excuse for our D falling off a cliff. Eric Washington is trash as DC.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
