REPORT: Carolina Panthers already setting their sights on positional priorites in next April's draft

Just saw the description in the link, and i have to say...  as someone who hasn't watched nearly as much college football in recent years as i used to, i did catch a couple notre dame games this year and a couple of their edge rushers caught my eye immediately.  IIRC, one was #42, and his build, balance, strength, and explosiveness reminded me of Khalil Mack.  I'm not saying that's who he will be, but i have a feeling he is going to be a great pro and a guy i definitely want on our team.

Edit: just looked him up to make sure it was who i remembered, and yup...  it is.

Also, fun fact(s) - his name is Julian Okwara.  He is originally from Nigeria, and hd moved to the US in the 3rd grade.  His US hometown is none other than CHARLOTTE, NC.

So, what I'm saying is...  go get him hurney.

If hurney is drafting its a linebacker and a running back

look to your heart you know it to be true

WELL, THE LAST LINEBACKER/RUNNING BACK WE DRAFTED IS A BUST: COUGH COUGH SHAQ THOMPSON.

BUT I WOULD LOVE DEVIN WHITE!!! HE IS A RB/LB. STRAIGHT STUD.

As a 50% ND fan (my wife’s entire family are ND fans so that makes me one, plus I converted them from Bears fans to Panther fans) I can tell you Okwara is an absolute beast. The other DE (Khalid) isn’t too shabby either. Michigan’s DL Gary is a stud and so is their DE. This is a good year for pass rushers. Speaking of ND, their Safety Alhoi is one of the best safeties they have had since Harrison Smith. Kid flies all over the field. I don’t think he can come out this year, but’s hes one to watch for next years draft.

It's not like GMs just sit around and twiddle their thumbs this time of year. Every GM should be working on this right now.

I just hope that it's all for naught. We need a reboot next year. I'm hoping Tepper cleans house after the season.

I HOPE HURNEY, TEPPER, WHOEVER THE NEW GM IS, AND THE SCOUTING DEPT HAVE BEEN WORKING ON THIS BEFORE THE SEASON EVEN STARTED.

This is a great DL draft. Possibly the best that I can remember. If the opportunity is there, I'm taking two DL in the first three rounds. We have four picks in the first three rounds to play with.

    • Reasonable. I mean I didn’t see a clear path to relief this season myself. As I have typed already, I think the QB FA class is more interesting next season and that draft is supposed to be stacked as well. There just weren’t many options this year.  When you have Tepper to contend with you have to tread lightly around this unless you are 100% certain and willIng to stake your job on it.   There were a couple of outings that helped Bryce a lot in terms of  thinking maybe he can do this, and if you are a supporter you are giving them a lot of weight. You are likely to think just get him some more help and he can do that every week. Which I think Tepper falls into that category.  And the playoffs, division champs, regardless of the way I see that, the supporters will also give that a lot of weight.    And the big one, the atmosphere In BOA for that WC game, Tepper had to be soiling himself over that. If you pulled Bryce out right now you had better be right and your new guy had better make the playoffs and look good doing it or you will be gone and your chance to build your old team back into respectability will be gone too.  So here we have Pickett on a one year deal, and Grier and King. I understand it.
    • Well, seeing as we play the Lions at home this year, pretty sure that rumor isn't true.
    • Totally possible imo, I also caught that snippet from Morgan where he said “If” we sign him. The lack of competition says otherwise tho 🤷‍♂️
