Jake was never a franchise QB and honestly, it’s embarassing that we even compare him to Cam.

I understand this sentiment.  I don’t share in the embarrassment though.  The only two Super Bowl QBs the franchise has had so it’s the natural comparison..

The two are not comparable though. Jake would tell you that and I think he’s said as much in interviews.

John Elway was a loser of Superbowls until he wasn't. If the new FO is willing to protect Cam for the reminder of his time here, or in the NFL...Cam can win 1 or 2 before it's over.

Im seriously doubting cam will play into his late 30s , but i get your point though.

Elway was always a good qb but what finally tipped the scales was getting a much better coach and better supporting cast

There will be a big chunk of this fanbase that is in for a rude awakening in the post-Cam era unless we luck into another stud as Cam is winding down like the Packers did with Favre/Rodgers or the Niners did with Montana/Young. Most franchises spend a few years floundering pretty hard after losing their long-term franchise QB.

Which is exactly the reason we need to start allocating some draft resources to develop a qb behind Cam.

This. People seem to have forgotten the Jimmy Clausen, Rodney Pete, Vinny Testeverde days. How, I don’t know. But all these people crying about Cam will be wishing he was back when he’s gone unless we got lucky like you said. He might not be the best, but he damn sure ain’t the worst.

There's a fine line between Cam criticism and taking for granted what you have as a football team which is a legitimate franchise QB. Money talks and teams clearly value this position:

Kirk Cousins - Fully guaranteed 3 year $84 million deal

Jimmy Garoppolo - 5 year $137.5 million $74.1M guaranteed
Aaron Rodgers- 4 year $134 million with $79.2M guaranteed

Or look what the Jets were willing to give up to trade for Sam Darnold - 6 overall pick, 2 2nd round picks, and a 2019 2nd round pick.

Quarterbacks are valuable and cannot be taken for granted. Where does Cam stand in all of this? He's not among the elite of the elite when you talk about Brees, Brady, Rodgers or Ben. But at the end of the day, this is only a group of 4 guys.

When you talk about that second tier of franchise QBs: Russell Wilson, Matt Ryan, Kirk Cousins, Carson Wentz, Matthew Stafford Andrew Luck, Jared Goff, etc. etc......He's right in that mix with all of them. And these guys are not easy to find and teams are willing to take the shirts off of their backs to get one of them.

These QBs can look like top 5-10 QBs one game but then 10-20 on another game. Consistent elite play across multiple seasons is what keeps them from being in that same category as the elite of the elite. So what you see Cam going through right now, is the same thing you'll see from Kirk Cousins, Matthew Stafford, and Russell Wilson on occasion. They have their ups and downs but they are still quality starters in this league. We are just more familiar with Cam's mistakes because we watch him more closely every week.

I think Cam can be a franchise QB until he's in his mid 30s at least. He's shown big improvements in his decision making, has put up career highs in a lot of areas and his still playing his best ball despite these recent blunders at the ends of games.

So as frustrated as you might be with this season, don't cross that line and forget what we have at QB. Myself gets pissed at cam but with my emotions to the side he is a great qb . I still think we draft a solid back up  to eventually replace him but this is how he stacked up against other qbs

Great observation.  Thanks for helping me get back to seeing the true picture.
