Moton LT of 2019? Not so fast...

For those of you wondering about Moton in 2019, did you wonder why he was not playing some LT yesterday?

That makes me wonder about Williams and a new contract.  Or the condition of his  knee.

We were one OT whiff away from CMC taking snaps.

Options?  Moton to LG,  Moton to RT without signing Williams,  Moton to left tackle even though we kept him on  the right side this season while the LT position sucked.

Since RR is the coach, who knows?   Does he think that far  ahead?

Rivera is coach? Expect amini at left tackle.

Whoosh. He took LDE. Pittsburgh runs a 3-4. You should read LOLB. If he goes with CMC then he’s not rushing. If he rushes, throw to CMC for nice gain. Cam completely missed him.

He was RT...lol its not proof he shouldnt have been LT or proof the same result wouldnt happen if he were...a different RT may have a different result...

Trying Moton at LG is insane. That’s the easiest position on the OL. You don’t move your best tackle there, period. Continuity at OL is key and that’s not understood in here. You don’t want to just keep moving people unless you have to (Williams going down).

This was our plan going into last year until Matt came up injured in training camp.

I know. I won’t say it wasn’t stupid because it was damn obvious the first time Moton played LT that he should have been doing that his rookie year over Kalil. Would have been nice having the Moton we’ve seen playing in the playoff game last year instead of Kalil.

Also, him being in the running to play guard had nothing to do with him being a better guard. It was because we lost a stud in Norwell and that was the only open position to keep the line the same from an 11-5 team. I understood that it made sense as we also had never seen Moton at tackle yet and continuity is big and we all knew Norwell was huge for us. After Kalil got hurt, it became painfully obvious that he had no business starting over Moton. Our coaches haven’t shown the ability to put the better young guys in before injuries.

If he was better at LT then would have been slated for LT and other plans made for OG...as that is the easiest position at Oline...lol...

OK, why would you play a LT at RT all season while Clark flounders at LT?

Not going to get in the middle of your argument, but I will answer this.

I don't think anyone disputes the fact that Moton was the best LT on the roster.  But he was also the best RT on the roster (in fact, he was the ONLY legitimate RT on the roster).  The difference, the only OT on the roster that we could even consider starting was Clark.  But the problem is that Clark is a far worse RT than LT (and that's saying something).  He has been tried there in the past and is virtually incapable of playing RT with any level of competence.

Unfortunately, the only other player that could have taken over RT if we moved Moton to LT was Silatolu.  And I don't think anybody wanted to see him anywhere near the field.  So, the issue wasn't that we were playing our best LT at another position, it was that we didn't have anyone else that could play RT if we moved Moton.  So basically, it was a move out of necessity rather than desire.

The thing is, if you look at the Oline as a whole rather than individual parts, it was clear they were better with Moton at RT and Clark at LT.  As bad as our line looked this year, it would have been far worse if we switched Moton and Clark.

    • With the contract money an OT first rounder makes you can ALWAYS get a new girlfriend.  And probably an upgrade at that.  You only got 2 parents.
    • Brother. You are wholly confusing comparing situations and applying actual standards like most other franchises do like simply getting into a playoff series and winning at least 1 or 2 series games with praising. Nobody is praising the Hawks. Nobody is praising the Magic. Nobody here likes those teams. But reality is reality. The Hawks like other franchises have traded players fired coaches etc but they can still win a couple playoff games. How is that not the bare floor for you or anyone else? What are we doing here if it isn't? We've seen eye to eye on many things over the years. But you are in the camp on the Hornets where you are emotionally attached to LaMelo where you feel the need to carry his water like he's got that juice. That's cool that you feel that way. It's your prerogative. But I differ from that viewpoint entirely. If he had that juice we would not have gotten wiped off the court in 2 play in games with 2 different coaching staffs and rosters. if people don't like hearing that well I'm sorry but how the hell is this team ever going to get better and ultimately go anywhere in the postseason if we just blindly pat them on the back for getting their asses whooped before they actually even get into the real playoffs? There seem to be some Bryce Young level standards being applied here. That's wild to me. But to each his own.
    • Proctor/Freeling were always the belles of the ball where we were picking. What those two *could* become at OT was far greater than what others could be at their respective positions and I’m glad our FO could see that.
